So much is better in my 50's. I am retired from a good job, enjoy time with my lovely husband and great friends. But my still outside doesn't match my inside. This time I am applying to my weight loss journey some of the smarts, sense of responsibility and compassion that have helped me succeed in other areas of my life. I joined last August (2011) a few months after retiring and though I stopped visiting SparkPeople when my computer wonked out, I did not quit.

At first I focused on simply moving. The first day after I retired,I walked out to my weed filled yard and just started working ten minutes at a time. I could not handle more. Then I joined a gym and started using the cardio machines half hour a few times a week. Finally I got the guts to start working with a trainer at the gym. He was a tough but kind and soon I was sweating bullets and trying stuff I never did. I did not lose much weight, but soon I noticed my pants were looser. With only 4 pounds off the scale, I went from a tight 20 to a loose 18. A few more pounds and now the 18's are too loose. My body is getting stronger and recently I hiked with my husband for the first time in many many years. That was one of the first goals I set for myself.

Personal Information:
I am a 58 year old retired librarian and film buff from the Great Lakes region. I love movies, travel and of course reading. I don't love the 50 extra pounds I am carrying around and I am determined to do it this time no matter how long it takes or how many mistakes I make along the way.

Other Information:
Favorite films:
Obscure foreign:The Great Match
Hollywood oldie: Some LIke it Hot
Bollywood: Veer Zaara.

Books: I read mostly classics and sci fi. I am a die-hard Jane Austen fan but I don't think she is sweet and romantic like the movies. I love her brutal honesty and satiric wit.
