A new life, a new goal

Feb 2012: Struggling to break the 200lb mark! The holidays and the sugar has definitely hindered my constant progress. I need to kick it up a notch but pain and injuries are slowing that down. So Slow and Steady for the time being!

Sept 2011:
Well! After getting a full medical eval and now on meds for excess testosterone, pre-diabetic and taking an iron supplement, I finally have gotten back on the fitness path and sailing fairly steady! This is DEFINITELY a journey!

Dec 2010:
I made it thru a year, of a divorce, moving a few times, a loved cat that had to be put down. I started 2010 training for a 1/2 marathon, but the separation from my relationship and new job (which is now ending) had turned the training into just another piece of my stress puzzle.

I grew up as a chunky girl-teased early that I looked "pregnant" at 8, I used to just blame my posture. I watched my mom go from an anorexic diet with power walking 5 miles/day to obesity with complications. I tried slim fast at 21-it worked of course, but it also left me with no new lifestyle habits and the weight came back. Tried TOPS at 25, and managed to get my weight down again (exercise, eating right) and then the pregnancies came and with the weight gain, new lifestyle as a SAHM, post postpartum and stress, the weight came on and didn't really want to leave. Between pregnancies I did manage to up my physical fitness with regular walks and trips to the gym but left out the nutrition component and didn't lose much weight.

My last pregnancy left me the heaviest-255lbs and a size 22. I have those pictures up on my board-right in front of my computer where I can see where I started.

When I was 23 (and during one of my "heavy" times) I swore to myself that by the time I was 32 I would be in the best shape of my life. I guess I'm a bit of a procrastinator, because I turn 32 this August (2010) and am still about 212lb and a size 18.

I spent the holidays beating myself up-trying to WILL away the fat that had accumulated (40% body fat). Part of me knew that if I only focused on my goal of "22% by 32" that I wouldn't be able to really get there. The obsession with the scale was wearing me down. So I stopped spinning my wheels and waited. I tried to re-read "Burn the Fat, Feed the muscle", THIS time from the beginning, instead of skipping around. I embraced the affirmations and truly wrote what I desired in the present tense.

Then the change happened. I no longer looked as weight loss as my goal but set a PHYSICAL goal-a goal I felt I could TRAIN for. Its actually harder to run away from something than it is to run TOWARDS something else. While I'm trying to "leave" my heavier body, i felt looking forward to something I could feel I was getting stronger at would be better. So I signed up for a half marathon in Sept. I'm using the C25k training podcasts, interval training on my off days, strength training class with my personal trainer once a week (which kicks my butt each time). I'm using the thrill of being able to RUN (which I never did due to my exercise asthma) to keep me motivated to continue. I'm also using the "lose it" program for my iphone to track my foods (i found it easier than sparkppl for the time being).

Now the chaos is dying down, winter is coming to pass and I am sick of once again out growing clothes that I just bought, I've made a pack with my current boyfriend-he gets 10 weeks to quit smoking and I have that time frame to drop at least 2 sizes (which actually puts me back to where I was)-both working on health in our own way.

Portion Control-I give myself a treat daily but also am moving as much as I can..... I used the South Beach diet to jump start my pre-diabetic self to a healthier place. I also was walking up to 30 miles a week to get the first 50lbs down... I haven't pushed myself further yet due to life changes

Maybe our toddlers are plotting together! My daughter's been uninterested in sleep between 9 PM and 3 AM. It definitely makes life more challenging.

Hope it gets better soon!
