I joined Sparkpeople in May of 2008. I pretty much lurked and read the articles and did the wheel spin but I never really got into the trackers. I was going through a lot of stuff and was guilty about not taking care of myself.

What made me change? When I gained almost the total weight that I lost the last time I "changed my life". I have a bag of size 0-2 jeans proving I could do it.

I found out it took constant attention to make sure I was making the right choices, ...

I found out it took constant attention to make sure I was making the right choices, changing my mind-set towards food and exercise. It really tired me out because I had so many other things going on in my life at that time.

The final straws:
Not being able to fit into my work pants
The new tapered blouses the company wants us to wear is too
tight
Counting how many meds I really have to take a day
The cost of the tests I need to keep me alive is ridiculous, but
I don't get my meds until the tests are done (every three
months)

The Good News:

After losing these 8 extra pounds, I will be able to control my
blood sugars
I am 2 weeks into a habit of walking everyday-in 4 more weeks
it can be considered a lifestyle
In tracking my food, I can analyze where I am at as far as carb
fats and protein goes. I am real good at that.
My core is stronger by the exercise; playing with the
grandkids will be easier
I'm making an effort to get out or get moving on my days off
(altho I think I deserve to lay around))

Since I have been hanging out here on a more regular basis the last couple of weeks, I have been blogging more, page-surfing other blogs and finding people I think are interesting with similar
interests. Then I find their links which leads me to other links I never heard of and I learn a lot of things. I have found one link I have added that is a supplement to this site. This is my #1 site.
But I do like my new one "Fit By Fifty" because it is the closest to my goal right now.

I was born and raised in Southern Oregon and besides a couple of trips back East, I have been here all my life.
