My Goals:
I would like to lose a pound or two a week by following a more healthy lifestyle regarding both my diet and my physical routine.

My Program:
I work with a terrific Personal Trainer twice each week doing Cardiac Phase 3 rehab. She has me do both cardio and strength work. If you're in Birmingham and looking for help, let me know and I'll connect you with Andrea!!

I try hard to do 30 minutes of cardio on the other days of the week [but don't always make that happen, I'll admit].

Personal Information:
I'm Robbie Grier.

I grew up in Gastonia, NC. After college, I moved to Charlotte. Later I moved with work to Atlanta, South Florida, North Florida, New Orleans, Birmingham, AL and now Dallas, TX.

I had open heart surgery in May 2012. I have bounced back pretty good. I'm working on keeping a focus on my weight/nutrition along with increasing my physical activity level.

Other Information:
I love all types of music from Pop to Rock to Country and Western to Bluegrass to Opera to Classical to . . . [Well You Get The Idea]!!

Some of my favorite authors include: C. S. Lewis, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Sara Paretsky, Scott Turow, John Grisham, and Sue Grafton. My favorite set of books are the stories of James Herriot. I find his stories about his years as a country vet and the animals he treated (and their owners) to be fascinating.

My movie tastes are pretty varied. Iím a big James Bond fan (yeah I think Sean Connery was the best). However, when asked to name my favorite movie, I almost always say either Brian's Song (the story of Brian Piccolo's life and death from cancer - the original one with James Caan and Billy Dee Williams), What's Up Doc? (a hilarious Barbra Streisand/Ryan O'Neal romantic/comedy), or Braveheart [depending on my mood at the time of the question].

I just read your "tell us Ten" on the diabetes team.. Very funny about the exes..

An old friend of my parents was married FIVE times.. His favorite saying was, "All my wives were the best housekeepers. They all got to keep the house."

Robbie, Don't you hate that sometimes, when you've tried to Eat Healthy, and stay within range on Calories and Carbs, that that darn Fasting Blood Glucose/Sugar # is still high!?!

This Diabetes is a tricky thing. It is like trying to balance a 3 legged stool...Diet, Meds, and exercise, are the 3 legs. Then throw in all the other things, like getting enough sleep, dealing with Stress, drinking enough water, moving enough, balancing carbs out evenly, sickness or infection, and did I mention ~Stress?!
It is a pretty complicated process. But if you keep trying, aim to Balance, do your best at eating healthy, moving a bit, sleeping, and drinking water ... the things you can control, that is all you can do.

Have no idea how I found your page...but...CONGRATS on kicking the smoking habit. I've been alcohol free for over 5 months and feel great. Health and happiness to you in 2014!
