Just a simple guy...

I'm tired of being uncomfortable on planes. OK, let's rephrase that...I'm tired of being squished into plane seats...let's face it, thin or not they're not really comfortable.

My Goals:
I'm aiming to sit on planes comfortably (ok, as possible)...sounds silly but I travel a lot for work and there's nothing that reminds me of my size like getting on a plane. So that's the driving goal - no squished hips, no seatbelt extensions, no fearful looks from those I sit next to. A secondary goal is to buy clothes in normal sizes...I hate buying "executive cut" suits. I want shirts that don't have an X (or 2 or 3) on the tag. Finally, I'd like one day to be able to be comfortable at a beach or pool. I never take my shirt off in public, and I'd like to not be so self conscious about that.

My Program:
Tracking what I eat has been a huge success for me thus far - it takes the negativity of dieting and changes it to a personal challenge. The formula is pretty simple: eat less, move more. I did it once before and gained most of what I lost back. Time to fix it and sustain it.

Personal Information:
I'm a husband, a dad of a grown daughter, a paramedic and an executive in the emergency management world. My days are long, the stress level can be high and I can't imagine doing anything else. My world went from knife and gun club to policy and politics over the past 20 years. I like doing innovative things - demolish old ways of thinking and build new, better systems, processes and ways of thinking. Now I'm applying that work approach to myself. For fun I take pictures. Photography has become my creative outlet and will one day be my third career.

Welcome to the Nor-Cal Sparkers team. You must be from around the Santa Rosa area. I can remember visiting my grandmother in Santa Rosa and Sonoma when I was growing up, I love that area. Actually I love all of California but mostly Northern California. emoticon

Welcome to SparkPeople! This really is a place that will help you change your life. As you know, diets don't work. Change is hard work, and it is a lifelong journey. You will find a lot of support here between message boards, articles, exercises, and teams. Glad you're using the nutrition tracker. I use that as a compass to guide me through the day. Be sure to use the exercise tracker, too. Enjoy your journey here!
