grandmas progress

I am 64(almost 65) years old, and I would like to prolong my life and enjoy the grandchildren I have and the one on the way. I have been slow losing the weight, but maybe I can get on track pretty soon. No real help from anyone around here. I have lost 7 lbs., but need about 40 more to go.

4-4-2008 - I have now lost 10 pounds, but still have a lot to go. I am trying to keep the calorie range, (but more times than not, I go over the alloted calories. With the weather finally getting better (after a LOOOOOOONG winter) I can start walking again and not be afraid that I am going to break every bone my body falling on the ice.

3-3-2012 - I have been trying once again for about a month now, and have managed to lose 7 lbs. It has been a long haul, even for just a month. As I mentioned above, I have no real support here. My husband needs to lose, too, but thinks it's a waste of time. So he doesn't really support me. However, if I eat something I shouldn't or my calorie count is a little high he is quick to let me know about it. If I do a good job, it's just a good job, and no enthusiasm or anything else. I would like to have someone encourage me just a little. It is hard to do it on my own sometimes. There are some other family circumstances that keep my stress level pretty high, so that doesn't help either. I can't do anything about them, but that really doesn't help.

My Goals:
I would like to lose 4 lbs. or so a month for the rest of the year to obtain my goal.

My Program:
I am working between the Sparks diet and the DASH diet. So far, so good.

Personal Information:
I live in Nebraska. Little town of about 200 people, near the 2nd largest man-made lake in Nebraska. Very seasonal area. I am married, and have 2 children and 5 grandchildren, plus an extended family of about 20 now. They are all delightful.

Other Information:
My hobbies are crocheting and reading. We traveled in an RV for 16 years, but my husband's health won't permit that now, so we are grounded unless we take tours. Which me may do.

I belong to the Daughters of the Nile, a Masonic affiliated women's organization. My crocheting primarily consists of making afghans, etc., for the Shriners Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

2/15/12 - I am starting over again. I have been terribly lax and have gained back most of what I lost. This time I want to lose about 4 lbs. or so a month for the remainder of the year. Maybe if I lose slowly it will stay off better. Anyway, I lost 5 lbs. last week, and then the weekend hit--so have a gain to contend with. Anyway, it was anther long winter of ice and snow and wind, so maybe with nicer weather coming, and a new puppy, I'll have more motivation to walk. She needs it as bad as I do. emoticon
