Still I Rise.

I have been overweight since grade school, but really got big when I moved out on my own at 18. I never ate 3 meals a day (especially breakfast) and chose really crappy foods over the healthy, all of this maintained my weight. While I am glad that I don't go up and down all the time, maintaining such a large form isn't okay either. The good thing is, I drop the weight fairly quickly when I do eat right and workout- of course I tend to do everything "hardcore" so I usually end up hurting myself. ...
Case and point: Fall of 08 I worked out everyday for several hours a day, dropped 11 lbs in 2 weeks... Got tendonitis in my knee and put all the weight back on, plus some. Last April I started a new healthy lifestyle, eating 3 meals, counting calories, working out and I lost 50 lbs by July- sadly depression kicked in once Fall started and my summer job was over so I gained most of it back. But now, my best friend and I are embarking on a 1 Year Challenge to lose the weight and keep it off! Follow along as we hit the ground running (literally!). I have between 104.2 and 128.2 to lose.

UPDATE 07/11: I am currently training for my first 5K (running, not walking)- I have never been a runner, but I am doing well so far. I chose a 6 week training program from FITNESS Magazine and at the end of my 6 weeks I will run the Foster Kids 5K in Redmond, WA.

I am planning on training for a Marathon next year, I plan on running a 5K in August, 10K in September, a half in Novemeber and then the full next June! The year after that I plan on riding the STP and getting into Triathalons as my newest goal is to be an Ironman by 2015!

UPDATE 08/11: I ran my first 5K and am currently in training for my first 10K, it has a 90 minute course limit so I am training on the specific course to get it down.

"GO BIG, OR GO HOME!"

UPDATE 09/11: I ran my first 10K on the 10 year anniversary of 9-11, it was an amazing day and such a great celebration of life!

"FINISH WHAT YOU START!"

UPDATE 11/11: I ran my first 1/2 Marathon in the pouring rain! I ran the Seattle Half Marathon on 11/27/11. It is one of the most amazing things I have ever been involved in! I PR'd at both the 5 and 10K marks and came in under 3:15 which was my race goal (03:08:52). I am currently in training for the Seattle Rock-N-Roll Marathon in June!

"IT'S NOT A MIRACLE THAT I FINISHED, IT'S A MIRACLE THAT I STARTED!"

UPDATE 4/12: Due to some MAJOR health issues I have decided to pause my 1 Year Challenge and focus on getting everything more balanced, I will continue to workout and eat right, but will not continue my 1 Year Challenge and train for my June Marathon at this point. I hope to resume where I left off as soon as I can.

UPDATE 5/12: I had a nagging pain in my left knee for a few weeks and got in checked out, an MRI showed that I have a cartilagious defect and a cyst that will require surgery to repair so it looks like I will be on hold a bit longer than excpected. I have gone back to crossfit and am doing upper body and core work and have taken off nearly all of the added weight, I have also gone Paleo which really helps with muscle tone. The plan after surgery and rehab is to train and run 1 marathon, 1 of each type of triathlon (sprint to Ironman) and then switch over to ultras and trail running to take the pressure off of my knees. Surgery is 6/29/12.

UPDATE 10/12: Knee surgery recovery has left me 40lbs heavier and with a lot less muscle, but I am finally cleared to workout- not the way I would prefer, by running and at Crossfit, but working out at all is better than nothing. I have a training program in place and am ready to take action!

UPDATE: 1/13: After 6 months of recovering from knee surgery I have finally been cleared and have returned to running and Crossfit. So far my knees are holding up, but I am taking it very slow and only running a few miles and at a slow pace and only doing 3 WODs a week this month so that probably helps.

UPDATE: 5/13: I am now doing 4-10 WODs per week as I am training people at my own non-affiliate Crossfit box in a friend's garage, as well as, still working out at my regular box. I competed in my first competition and killed it! I am not running yet as I am having some IT Band issues, but other than that I am back on track.

Just read your post on the WOD thread and wanted to stop by and say that I hope you're feeling better!! Back issues are never easy to deal with, especially when they leave you flat out. Time and rest and you'll be back to finish that WOD before you know it!! Take care of you!!

As I was reflecting on March and my journey to radiant health, it was a month in introspection where I didn't reach out a lot to my SparkFriends to be as supportive as you have been to me. I hope you know how much I appreciate you in my life and on this journey. Your words and just stopping by my page helps me know I am not alone and I am very thankful to have you as my SparkFriend.

BLESSINGS, LOVE AND LIGHT TO YOU FOR APRIL!

Thanks for checking up on me. Good to hear from you. I was looking at your progress in your pictures...great job! I am still plugging away. I have a 5K race on April 14. My plan is to run the triple crown, three races held in my area during the year. Then I am continuing to work my way up to a 10K. Keep up the good work you are an inspiration! emoticon

Just wanted to check in. Sounds as though you're doing really well. I'm sure you don't always feel like it (who does?) but with everything you're dealing with, how you're doing is fantastic!
