This Is Ridiculous

I have been overweight by varying degrees (sometimes only by 10 pounds, more often by 50+ pounds) my whole life. Intellectually, I know -- and have pretty much always known -- what I need to do. What fat girl hasn't read every magazine article, every book, etc. in an attempt to find the easy way out? I've even lost a lot of weight in various programs: Weight Watchers (made lifetime twice...um, obviously not MY lifetime), Atkins, optifast, etc.

So why is this time different? I ...

What fat girl hasn't read every magazine article, every book, etc. in an attempt to find the easy way out? I've even lost a lot of weight in various programs: Weight Watchers (made lifetime twice...um, obviously not MY lifetime), Atkins, optifast, etc.

So why is this time different? I have decided that what I need to learn first, while I'm still fat, is how to eat and live as an average-weight person. It does me no good to get down to a normal weight only to start eating like I always have and move back up. So I'm not racing to the finish line this time. I'm focusing on making small changes with an eye toward integrating those habits so firmly into my life that I keep them forever. As all my Done Girl friends like to say: I AM DONE. Not done changing. Just done keepin' on doin' the same old stuff I've always done.



Starting BMI: 38.3 (Obese)

BMI as of 9/11/08 (down 26): 34.2 (Obese)

Goal: BMI of 33.4 by 10/31 (Halloween challenge) -- MET

BMI as of 10/21 -- 32.8

BMI as of 12/1 -- 31.6

Goal: Down 56 pounds: 29.8 (Overweight)

Goal: BMI of 28.6 by 1/31/09

Goal: Down 88 pounds: 24.9 (Normal)

My Goals:
I want to be the active, healthy woman I've always been in my mind.
It's more important to me to learn good eating and exercise habits than to lose weight quickly (not that I wouldn't LOVE to drop all this extra baggage overnight).

My Program:
(1) Track all food. I've actually done this for three months (7/5 to 10/5), which is astounding for me. And it's working. I am eating smaller portions and better food.
(2) Increase my exercise. I've rarely missed my weekly tennis game in the last 4 years, but it ain't enough. So I'm committed to walking at least 2 miles a day at least 3 days a week.

Personal Information:
I'm a former publishing executive who left the fast lane to stay home with my twins, whom I had at an "advanced maternal age," as they say. I live in a suburb of Chicago.

I can't believe you're just now getting back to me on that! BOOHOOO!!!! We could have met! My team won our division down there in the desert! I was amazing and fun, and FABULOUS! :) We're the 3.5 champions for the year :-) It ends there though, fall champions don't go to Nationals :(

Are you so excited for the tournament next month!!?? I wish I could go out there and watch some of it! I'll be so jealous that you're right there, and have full access!!! waaaaaahhh!

Becky - well, you're in good company! I've gained too since you were last around. I'm trying to slowly turn this ship in the right direction! Yesterday was the midpoint of the BLC. So, I'm guessing the next one will start in ~8 weeks???

Things have changed a bit - they challenged us to get out of our comfort zone & try a new team this round. I'm now a Pirate (hence turning the ship!). The PPP's became the Wisteria Wolves sometime last year. Most of the "old" PPP's are scattered but a few remain on the Wolves team.

How's life in the desert? Have you found some people to play tennis with yet???? How are the kids adjusting? I bet you smile when you watch the winter weather in the midwest!

I'm SOOOOO EXCITED!! My USTA team won our flight, so today, we played the division finals and WON, so we're going to SECTIONALS! There is no nationals for fall, so that's the furthest we can go!!! SO EXCITED! We're going to Indian Wells in January to play on the same courts the PRO'S PLAY ON!!! I had a great season too. While my team is undefeated, I also was undefeated. I think I'm 8-0!!!! WOOOHOOOO!! Today's win was EXTRA sweet :-D
