I have just turned 53 and know I need to get serious about my fitness and my weight. A key motivation for me right now is just to ward off the effects of old age - and to make cycling, hiking, and golfing easier and more fun. To get to a healthy weight so I don't open myself to a whole host of ailments that I see happening all around me with friends and family. At a higher weight, my wife tells me I snore too much. So that's another motivator. Actually, I have about two dozen motivators so you would think this should be easy.

My Goals:
I want to get down to 175 lbs by March 1, 2014. Starting from 203.

The above is my old goal. As of Aug. 28, 2017, I am still 203 lbs and I still want to get down to 175 lbs and I should be able to do this by March 1, 2018. The difference is that I want to get there and maintain it at that level indefinitely. So, to do this, I want to start thinking like "175 lb Rick" right now. And this regularly means answering questions like, "What would 175 lb Rick do in this situation?". Because, if I don't start thinking like 175 lb Rick by the time I reach 175 lbs, what are the chances of maintaining that weight? Probably not good. So the goal is not only to reach 175 lbs but to also change my thinking so that I can support maintaining that weight for the rest of my lifetime.

My Program:
Generally exercising every day and trying to limit myself to around 2,000 calories a day. More than that though is eating a healthy 2,000 calories a day and making good choices throughout.

I'd have to say that amongst my main circle of friends, I know few tennis players and even fewer hikers. Our family loves to hike however I am the only tennis player. That may change soon as my daughter just last week asked me about signing up for some lessons and my wife wants to join in. I guess they are realizing how much fun tennis can be, and perhaps more importantly for them, how much of a workout it can provide as well (that's alot funner than the treadmill or elliptical).

Hi! I've been playing in our tennis league for YEARS and haven't met someone there who also likes to hike! It's fun finding people with the same interests. Our family loves to hike, and my husband and I like to play tennis too.
