3 years ago I was really out of shape (aroound 200 pounds), so I started walking then gradually I added jogging. 2min jog, 3 min walk and then added more jogging, till I can run for 30 min without walking. With time I increase the time and now I know that I can run for an hour without problem. I am not very fast, my regular pace is 6 min par km. So I am working on speed now. The best tips that I can give to you is to listen to your body. It is normal to be sore but not for a whole week. Be sure to have good running shoes. It makes a real difference. With motivation you can accomplish all your goal. It is to stay motivateg that I sign in for races. I live in Montreal, Canada so there is a web site call courir.org for races around here. I do not really know about in USA. I receive runners worls magazine and at the end you have a calendar with races to comes. Maybe if you go to their web site you can find races near you.
