I have struggled with my weight my entire life. Born at 6 pounds, 10 ounces; I quickly dropped below 5 pounds and was placed on a high caloric cereal to help me gain weight. That was all it took because from about 6 months old until now I have been overweight.

I have tried all the diets from Weight Watchers to Jenny Craig, but nothing seemed to work. So, I decided to forget the "dieting" and just concentrate on getting healthy, even if healthy was a size 24. And to be honest, it worked for a while. I was eating healthier with the help of an amazing trainer, Mike, and feeling better then I had ever felt physically. So what happened? Love, or at least what I thought was love. I found myself in a relationship that had become abusive and left me with no self-esteem and topping the scales at 315 pounds.

Once I was able to free myself from that situation, I was desperate to get back in control and I rushed into a LapBand surgery. A lot of pain and money later I discovered that that was definitely not the route for me. I was am not a big eater. For me, its not about quantity - it's quality. So, I was not taking in a lot of food, but what I was taking in was extremely high in calories. After six months, the scale was still sitting at over 300 pounds. Something had to change. So, I reverted to what worked before...just concentrating on getting healthy through healthier food choices and physical activity.

So here I am, currently sitting at 261 pounds. It's been a slow journey with many derailments along the way. But isn't there an old saying that goes, "slow and steady wins the race." So, sure it is taking some time, but the important thing is that I am losing the weight and keeping it off.

So stick with me on this journey to health and fitness. I know I am taking the scenic route, and there might be plenty of pit stops along the way, but I also know that I will reach my destination. Where is that? Well, my long term goal is to be 100 pounds lighter by mid-summer 2012 and 25 pounds away from my goal weight. With the help of SparkPeople, some amazing friends and workout buddies...I can easily get there.
