Hi weird lady-- I'm weird too! When I saw your comments about not rewarding yourself for your daily work, it struck a chord with me. I don't subscribe to the "pampered self" recommendations--
By the way, your picture is lovely and so is your smile--!

I read your post on those "hard cold facts". I wrote on the blog in response to yours. I am posting it hear because I hope you will read it and take heart :) All movement is good movement!

All very true. The part I think some people miss while reading this is that it has to be hard. If it is HARD for you to be in motion for 10 minutes then you are working out. My first walk of a 1/2 mile had me breathless and exhausted. That was a work out. Months latter my 4 mile will leave me breathless if I am pushing it. That too is a work out. For me, at this point logging in heavy house cleaning won't work. If House cleaning leaves you exhausted and is hard, It is a work out. All movement is good. Please do what you can when you can. Push yourself when you can. Do not give up!!

** I hope this in some little way gives you that encouragement we all do need at times**

I agree with you about rewards for reaching your health goals! They seem really strange. It seems counter-intuitive to me. I was going to buy jeans when I got to a certain weight, and I was hovering at a lb above for a long time. And then I just gave up and everything fell through. I gained back the weight I had lost. For some people, waiting for a reward can make the problem worse. I wish I had just bought those jeans, because I was so close and needed a pair. Getting healthier is its own reward, and as we lose weight, we'll be able to buy different clothes, just naturally.

I read your comment about exercise at 65 and I'm 65 as well (Class of '67) and I know we have to work at it daily to avoid all that can happen to us. We don't want this.... emoticon

That is Stephen Jepson's web site and he has lots of videos on YouTube. He is 73. He points out that we can make new brain cells by working at keeping our balance and our minds through exercises. He is a really interesting guy.

Hi there, I saw your comment on an article and I just wanted to show you my support! First of all, you are doing the right thing by joining a support group with tips and advice for the weight loss goal you are trying to reach. Believe me, it's really hard to do it on your own, especially when you don't know where to start. I've lost 42 pounds and I wanted to tell you that I started out on a recumbent bike. I used to sit on it and peddle away while I watched a half hour show. Some days I could make it, some days I couldn't. I gradually worked up to longer times and then worked on distance or a calorie goal. Another thing I saw is that you like music. I love music, and I start the morning listening to it. Sometimes I have what I call a "two minute dance party" and I just dance for a few minutes to one of my favorite songs.

I saw that someone mentioned chair exercises and that is a great option if you have limited mobility. And the person that told you to start using a resistance band just laying in bed. I have done these things, too. I like gentle yoga for stretching and some of the positions that I like best can be modified to be done from sitting in a straight back chair. I used to even wear 1lb wrist weights when I folded the laundry to work my arms because I wasn't ready for the gym!

I started this process three years ago when I found out that I had a nonthreatening heart arrhythmia. I was overweight and had poor exercise and poor eating habits. I also found that using a calorie counter or a food journal helped me keep on track. And I always kept a cheat day once a week. As time went on it went to once every two weeks and now it's just a cheat meal when the occasion comes up. It isn't a diet anymore, it truly has become a lifestyle change for me. Now I exercise and use the weights at the Y 5 days a week. Two days out of the week I rest my muscles. One weekday, and one weekend day. I'm in the best shape I've ever been in my life.

What I really wanted to tell you is that these suggestions that people are giving you, they really, truly work. They did for me. And they have for a lot of my friends at the Y. I see by you're weight ticker that you're currently at 172. That's exactly where I was when my doctor told me that I had the heart arrhythmia. Now I've gotten as low as 130 and generally the scale stays between 132-136 for me. I feel healthy and I'm finally comfortable in my own skin.

You can do this too! Remember, everything you do this month will give you results next month. Don't give up on yourself, you can do it!
