~Dare to Dream~

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to visit my page. I am 29 years old, married to a soldier, have two beautiful children and 4 dogs! The only reason that I have so many dogs instead of a collection of horses is because we can ship dogs around as we move every few years a whole lot easier!

I've been participating on this site since May of 2008. Over the last 10 years I have tried everything that I could to think of to lose weight with incredible diligence, giving it my all ...

Over the last 10 years I have tried everything that I could to think of to lose weight with incredible diligence, giving it my all every time. I tried Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Slim Fast, protein pills, monitoring all of my input and output here on spark as well as reading as many self-help books that I could get my hands on. I would usually poor my heart and soul into whatever I was doing and see very little progress from my body in return. I have always been an athlete and want to return to playing sports once my kids are old enough to be trusted not to run off if I'm not watching them constantly. Three years ago I played my last season of softball for what will be a while yet and was quickly shown just how hard it was for my body to carry around 250 lbs! I wrenched my back horribly, rolled ankles, pulled hamstrings, you name it! I was embarrassed and very hard on myself because I MUST be doing something wrong!
Up until two months ago I was a very healthy big girl. All of my blood panels came out fine. However two months ago all at one Dr.'s visit I found out that I was on the verge of hypertension, I had high cholesterol and I was diagnosed with type II diabetes! Talk about a shock that could have sent me reeling into a depression. Instead I decided to become pro-active and found a tool that I thought might finally help me work through my weight problems as well as bring all of my issues back under control.

I talked to my Dr. about lap-band and he thought it could be an amazing tool for me. So all of the paperwork and Dr.'s appointments started and here I am two months later having just been discharged from the hospital this afternoon with a lap-band implanted. I have many fears, but I feel very powerful and in control of at least the next few months of my life. (That's as far as I'm forecasting at the moment)

So right here, right now starts a brand new way of life...stay tuned because I know there will be good days and bad days, ups and downs and this is the perfect place for me to share my journey!

Thank you for your comments, the best thing is to take each day as it comes and just keep moving forwards. I'm glad I had the band done, even if I don't know what the future holds for me, and like you it will change our lives. Good luck with your new job, just focus on the money you will be getting!

Hi there! I just got my approval for surgery today! I am so excited! Can I ask you a few questions about yours? How long was the surgery? Did you have to stay overnight or did you go home that day? How long was your recovery-so that you felt okay enough to be up and playing with your kids? I have a 4 year old and an 18 month old. I want to have a realistic picture of what is to come! Thanks!
