I've been a member of Spark for a few years. I stepped away from my fitness because I just couldn't seem to work it into my busy schedule and I didn't feel badly, really. I look OK and I was comfortable.

Mother Nature had other plans for me though.

Feb 7, 2010 I lost the feeling on the left side of my body from the top of my head down to my hip. My teeth were buzzing and the world was spinning; literally. My co-workers called my husband who took me to the hospital where I was told I had just had a mild heart attack. I was 35 years old; only 2 years older than my father was when he had his first heart attack.

My heart beats irregularly but when I exercise or my body temperature is elevated, it regulates. The doctor reviewed my eating habits, and you know what he told me? Clean it up! No more snacking on Cheetos and these heavenly buttery Indian sweets at work; more fish and vegetables. Right now, he is telling me to work on conditioning my heart to be more efficient which means medium level aerobic exercise, but to take it slow and watch for problems.

This is how my new journey has begun. With the new purpose of saving my own life so that I will be around to see my children grow. I have no choice. There is no option to take my eye off of the plan. Not only do I not want to die, but I want to live for a very long time - hopefully to see great grandchildren!

This time, I am working little by little, taking new small steps every day to improve the quality of my life and my family's life.

I hope that you enjoy following me on my journey of rebirth and we can celebrate together when I emerge at the end a new woman.

I am from Houston, Texas and went to college at Oklahoma State University (Go Pokes!). My husband, three children and I live in the United Arab Emirates in a little town an hour and a half north of Duabi.

    I couldn't believe it when I read your story - I can only imagine how scary that was for you!

    It's great to see you again, though. I think that having gone through that scare will make it a bit easier to "clean up" the nutrition.

    Went to Texas last week. My parents are in Austin now, and I LOVE that town!! Didnt think I would. But really...whats not to love about Texas?!

    Hey Jennifer! Wow, your progress, your story & your page - all remarkable!! You look fantastic & so glamorous in your Ballet pic. I can totally relate to a few things here - Like you, my weight has been a battle my whole life! When I started this weight loss & fitness journey I had to reflect about the fact that I never finish what I start (in all aspects) & make the commitment to change that part of me. And finally, "BALANCE"... WHOA! How do I balance taking care of me & preserving what's important & taking care of those around me. And not letting life get in the way & use it as a wonderful excuse. I still get way nutty trying to keep that balance, but I seem to be doing it.

    Spark people has made all the difference! Thanks for the add! Together we can stay focused on our goals & finish what we've started! Keep pushing hard!
