I am a Mahayana practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism in the Gelugpa lineage (the lineage of the Dalia Lamas) I took refuge with Lama Zopa Rinpoche. In addition to my refuge vows, I also have lifetime lay vows and bodhisattva vows. I've studied extensively all the major areas including the Lam Rim; the Perfection of Wisdom (prajnaparamita); Vowed Morality (vinaya); Middle Way (madyamika); Higher Knowledge (abidharma); Logic and Perception (pramana).

One thing that strikes me about Sparkpeople.com is how closely the "practice" of successful weight loss and getting fit and healthy coincide with successful Buddhist practices. If I were to pick one thing that makes Sparkpeople work it's the tracking - this makes you aware of your daily even hourly and minutely activities - this awareness alone will bring things into balance. If I were to pick an over all effect that I would attribute to the success of this program it would be the retraining of your self perception.

To me "practicing" sparkpeople.com is just another aspect of my entire Buddhist practice.

Hey Ricci!

Thanks of thinking of me for co-leadership. :) I'll do all I can to help out (though I'm not very active on SP these days either), but I hope you don't totally disappear! We all benefit from your knowledge and wisdom.

Salud,
Deanna

You're answers to my Buddhism-related questions have been very helpful. I think you're great, and you really seem to spread positivity wherever you go. So, thank you, and thank you for your patience :)

You're doing great, 13 pounds already vanished! Congrats!

Diet rule 10b. Never buy a new scale while you're still in the progress of losing weight ;)

I think that sounds like a great idea, Ricci! I feel a little sheepish that I never went back to follow up on the meditation challenge idea, but if you gave the outline I'd definitely be game to be on it!

Deanna
