Getting Back on Track

I am in a sedentary job. I work customer service, which entails sitting at a computer all day, taking calls and answering emails. I have recently started working from home.

I am in a sedentary job. I work customer service, which entails sitting at a computer all day, taking calls and answering emails. I have recently started working from home.

This is beneficial because now I have so much more time that is my own (No more time wasted in a commute!) But it is also been detrimental in that I have become incredibly lazy. When I worked in my company's brick-and-mortar building, I at least had to walk from my car into the building (which was a pretty good walk, because it is a large parking lot -- up a hill -- and I was always running late, so I had to walk quickly.)

Now, I saunter down the hall and sit down at the computer. I think part of my laziness has been from the adjustment to the new work habits. Part of of it has been a burgeoning depression that I have not been managing very well.

At any rate, it is time for me to get back on track.

It also does not help that most of my favorite hobbies are very sedentary: I love to read and I love textile crafts (quilting, embroidery, weaving, spinning, knitting, crochet, sewing -- you name it.)

I also enjoy gardening, walking and hiking. I hope to get outside more and get more hiking in.

My Goals:
My main goal is to regain my fitness. For me, the actual number on the scale is secondary. As I gain my fitness, I know that my weight will reduce as a matter of course, but that is not my primary goal.

I have long had a goal that I eventually want to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail.

I am now in my early 40's, and I'm realizing that I need to start getting back in shape now, if I ever want to accomplish that goal!

I want to start eating healthier.

My Program:
I am just re-starting my routine.

For starters, I am going to be more mindful of what I eat. I will start paying attention to what I eat, and I will start paying attention to my portion sizes.

As far as fitness, my first goal is just to get outside every day. Even it if it only to go for a walk around the block -- I need to start getting more activity and fresh air.

I am going to try to start integrating my more sedentary hobbies with my active ones. For instance, I want to walk to a destination and photograph or draw something that will be inspiration for my textile art.


Personal Information:
I live in the Pittsburgh area.

My favorite (indoor) hobbies are reading, writing, and all kinds of textile arts. (Quilting, sewing, embroidery, knitting, weaving, crochet, spinning.)

My outdoor hobbies include photography, walking, hiking, and gardening.
