Rachel's Journey of Self Improvement

Hi, I'm an easy going person, always singing to myself and looking on the bright side. If I'm not too busy I can be found playing games on my PC, DS or Xbox360. I enjoy listening to music of all sorts. I live with my eldest son, who's 18 and a good lad.
Four years ago he persuaded me to give up smoking and I put on 3 stone. It's off now, and I intend to keep it that way!

My Goals:
I would like to lose my excess weight and hope to increase my stamina levels through excercise.

*UPDATE*
I guess I've reached those goals and my new ones are of maintanence.

My Program:
I've invested in a couple of dance DVDs, but mostly I'm just trying to run about much more. For instance when I walk into the town instead of sauntering I run as far as I can, then walk quickly whilst I get my breath then run again all the way! I am also counting calories. So far my food choices don't seem to be a problem but my portion sizes were way over! I was using the food tracker here for a while till I got an idea of what a balanced meal looked like for me. I calorie count what I eat where I can. I'm not expecting sudden weight loss, but I figure if I lose even just a little weight now and then eventually I will get to my goal weight. If that takes years that's ok. Seems to be working too!

*UPDATE*
Thanks to Sparkpeople nothing really changes even though I've reached my goals. I've learned to balance meals and portion sizes and nothing was/is forbidden anyway. It's all been a matter of educating myself really.

Personal Information:
I'm 37 years old, single and from Folkestone, Kent, England.

I am an administrator for a Marist run residential home. I also volunteer as a receptionist for a local charity, helping the homeless.

Hey there - long time, no see. Thanks for the comment on my blog. You might know about this already but be sure to check out Spark's mileage mapper in the fitness section. The page where you go to enter your exercises -- click on "map my route." Good luck with the running!!

Even though I just ran one mile without stopping, I'm not sure I can do more .... I'm just going to keep trying. I can't believe I did it after only two months of trying.

Thanks for your comment on my blog, and congratulations on your success in the past six months!

Recently I've had several people (both here on SP and in real life) express amazement about how much I've accomplished in just six months. Sometimes I share that amazement, but then I have to remember how much I've worked to achieve those accomplishments, and then I think about how fortunate I've been able to work this hard and still fit it into the rest of my life without leaving everything else half-done!

Happy six months, and I hope that you accomplish your goals. I'll see you at the finish line!

Hi, sorry not been on much lately. Hope to be on more now. So, how are things going with you?

I have been doing some more walking, which has been good. Aiming to do the walk from Capel to Dover soon!

Take care
