My name is Lew. I'm 71 yrs. old and happily married. I joined Sparkpeople in January 2012, use the trackers each day, and participate in Spark Teams. This program is working for me and I'm getting healthier. It will work for you if you work it in a way that you can maintain over time. My Vision Statement My vision is to change my lifestyle to a healthier one. I have gotten my weight back to 170 pounds, from 205, and have maintained that for five months as of this update. I was up to 205 but I had gotten it down some before I got the Spark. I have improved my physical condition and will continue working that as long as I'm capable. I wanted to do this to be better able to take care of my family, be able to do more with my 10 year old grandson, and continue to be a positive example for my children and grandchildren. I have come a long way in that department. I want to have more strength, endurance, and a healthier Cholesterol level. Specifically, I will keep my Cholesterol level below 200 and get off Lipitor by 2013. UPDATE 8/12: I'm off Lipitor and one other medication I was taking. I will be able to walk 5 miles 3 times per week and complete a full body workout 3 times per week, all without exhausting myself by Sept. 4, 2012. UPDATE 8/12: I'm there I will achieve this vision with calorie intake control, more healthy eating habits, aerobic exercise, strength training, and perseverance. Walking will be my main aerobic exercise because of my left knee problem. Strength training will be with dumbbells and restricted to those exercises that don't stress my shoulders. Success is dependent on the understanding that failure to meet a daily or weekly goal, and it will happen, does not signal failure of the vision. Setbacks will be opportunities to learn and improve the program. The journey will be as long as it takes and success is the only option. UPDATE 11/30/12: I've been on maintenance for 5 months now, holding at my target weight, and I know that to avoid regressing I have to stay with the program that got me here. That's Sparkpeople with all the tracking and community involvement that keeps me focused. If I don't do it, who will? Lew Newby

My Goals:
Be successful in a lifestyle change that will endure beyond the weight loss.
My Program:
I usually eat my normal high fiber breakfast with Yogurt. I eat various things for lunch and dinner keeping my calories within the goal parameters most days. I try to exercise daily and do a strength training program doing dumbbell and floor exercises with accommodations made for physical limitations. I reached my weight loss goal, 170 lbs, at the end of July 2012. My BMI is 22.5 and my body fat percentage is about 18%. My waist measurement has dropped from 40" to 35". I no longer need the cholesterol lowering drug nor the acid reflux drug I was taking. I started this journey at 205 lbs. with a BMI of 27 over 2 years ago. I joined Sparkpeople 7 months ago weighing 192 lbs. I am far from finished in this transformation. My next focus will be on getting at least 5 fruits and vegetables every day while maintaining my workout program. I will also focus on introducing more complex carbohydrates into my diet while getting my fat grams consistently into the
