From the Heart of Colorado!

Hi Everyone! I'm giving Spark a try because I want to change the way I feel. I never had a weight problem until I was about 40 years old, and then I don't know what happened! (I'm 54 now.) This extra 57 pounds is keeping me from doing the things I want to do in my life. I don't have any energy, my feet hurt, my ankles swell, . . . shall I go on?? I have a small horse ranch in Colorado and I also teach online. I'm anxious to give the Spark program a try, though I am not at all happy about ...
Hi Everyone! I'm giving Spark a try because I want to change the way I feel. I never had a weight problem until I was about 40 years old, and then I don't know what happened! (I'm 54 now.) This extra 57 pounds is keeping me from doing the things I want to do in my life. I don't have any energy, my feet hurt, my ankles swell, . . . shall I go on?? I have a small horse ranch in Colorado and I also teach online. I'm anxious to give the Spark program a try, though I am not at all happy about giving up coffee w/cream in the mornings or my glass of wine with dinner. :-( I hope I can get some support, and I hope I can give some, too!

My Goals:
1. Regain my health, energy, balance, and flexibiity.
2. Raise my self-esteem.
3. Be able to ride my horse, Mojo, freely and with the wind in my hair!

My Program:
 I'm on the "Fast Break" program as I just started on May 3, 2010. Ultimately, I'd like to be down to 150 pds (I'm tall and in my mid-50s, so I think that's good enough!)

Personal Information:
I'm originally from Denton, Texas, but my husband and I have been in Colorado for 10 years now. We have a small horse ranch, 4 goats, 2 dogs, 3 cats, and a conure (parrot). That's our mountain family!

Other Information:
 I teach online for a living and my husband is a mechanical/design engineer. I love all animals and have lots of rescues on my ranch. Any horse and goat lovers out there?

Hi! How are things going? Hope you don't mind I added you as a friend. You have some cute critters there.
I have started riding my bike up the road instead of driving when I feed the horses. I made a video blog of it the first time I went. ( http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_j

If I ride every am and pm it will total 6 miles a day. So it IS doable, I just have to try not to grab the keys and hop in the truck when I feel lazy. I haven't used a bike for transportation for 25 years..

I'll just have to keep in the front of my thoughts that 42 miles a week will make those pounds drop. Anyway that's the plan and so far I'm doing it.

Thank so for commenting on my blog =) I was in Paris in that picture. It was very exciting, it was the first time I went out of the USA.

I had no idea how many horse people are on sparkpeople! I knew i wasnt the only plus size rider, but this is great!

Hubbies being out of work is not good. It's so hard, which you know. We were the same way, our animals came first. We HAD to make sure they had food. Although I dont own a horse (I do ride once a week down in Ocala with a trainer named David Kirk) I do have 6 cats and 2 dogs. They do not eat as much as horses, but it's still a lot of food when you're feeding on a budget.

I am SO sorry to hear about your father, that has to add to the stress. I'm a bad stress eater. I also eat when I'm happy, sad, lonely, BORED, and even when i'm full I still eat. It's horrible BUT I'm changing it. I'm slowly making changes in my life.

And Yes I am Irish =) My maiden name is Dahling (german), but my mother's maiden name is O'Brien. I'm a hines 57 haha I have Irish, German, Italian, and Indian. Thank you for the comment on my hair as well =)
