Moving Forward in 2014

2013 ended up being a terribly rough year for me. I switched to a new job which caused me an exponential amount of stress; my mom was diagnosed with cancer; and my relationship of 2 years ended.

I went into 2014 vowing to turn my life around and so far, I've done just that. I'm separating from the military, moving across the country back to my hometown in NJ, and starting a new job. I'm also currently training for my first full marathon on October 19th.

I still need to lose 15-20lbs to get my weight back to where I'm comfortable with it and I know it will take time.

Run four 1/2 marathons and set a new PR.

Run one full marathon.

My Program:
Running 4x week;
ST 2x week.

I use my fitbit and base my calories eaten on what fitbit says - but I try to "net" 1500 each day.

Personal Information:
I am from the great state of New Jersey, received my B.A. in English from Immaculata University, and my J.D. from New York Law School! I have a Morkie (Maltese/Yorkie) puppy named Buffy.

PRs:
5k: - 27:02
5 Miles: 47:44

Other Information:
I LOVE working out, but I'm not so great at eating healthy. I love to read books, scrapbook, cross stitch, dance, and attempt to cook new recipes.

My favorite movies are Dirty Dancing, Finding Neverland, and Halloween. But I have a strange addiction to really bad horror movies as well.

My favorite TV shows are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Haven, The Vampire Diaries, The Witches of East End, and Falling Skies. I also love all home decorating and home buying shows - I am obsessed with HGTV!!

My favorite books are Bellefleur by Joyce Carol Oates, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk, and The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.

Worry over the future breeds anxiety. Fretting over the past breeds depression. Both can stop our good movement forward and put us in front of the TV with a bad movie and too much of the stuff we don’t need to put into our bodies. That horrid cycle, of course, breeds regret and dread that brings us to more of the same. I believe that is called “insanity”.

Instead work to stay in the present taking the next step needed for living to the full the “now” that is before you, having learned better ways from past experience and pushing forward with hope that right action now will produce a better tomorrow. This is living life with power that produces a good outcome and protects our journey from wasting away.

Plan for the future, yes; but let the first plan be to live your best you in the now you have to possess.

How was your drive? (more like.. how were your audio books? haha)
I hope everything went well for you, the transition to your family's house, your stuff and you arriving safely, and hopefully transitioning into a new job.. not wearing a uniform!
take care of yourself!
