Moving Forward in 2014

2013 ended up being a terribly rough year for me. I switched to a new job which caused me an exponential amount of stress; my mom was diagnosed with cancer; and my relationship of 2 years ended.

I set 2014 out to be a year to focus solely on me - figuring out what I want out of life and making decisions on my own terms. I am planning to leave the military next year, and in the meantime, I am studying to take another bar exam to hopefully set me up for a positive job search. I ...

I am planning to leave the military next year, and in the meantime, I am studying to take another bar exam to hopefully set me up for a positive job search. I am also really focused on running again! I've run two Half Marathons so far this year and planning on running my first full marathon this year as well1

Personal Information:
I am from the great state of New Jersey, received my B.A. in English from Immaculata University, and my J.D. from New York Law School! I am now a Capt in the United States Air Force, stationed in Colorado Springs. I have a Morkie (Maltese/Yorkie) puppy named Buffy.

I LOVE working out, but I'm not so great at eating healthy. I love to read books, scrapbook, cross stitch, dance, and attempt to cook new recipes.

My favorite movies are Dirty Dancing, Finding Neverland, and Halloween. But I have a strange addiction to really bad horror movies as well.

My favorite TV shows are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Fringe, Ringer, and the Secret Cirle. I also love all home decorating and home buying shows - I am obsessed with HGTV!!

My favorite books are Bellefleur by Joyce Carol Oates, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk, and The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.

I am so glad someone else understands! Most people just don't get how you can seriously not have time and even taking 15 minutes creates guilt. You are right though, I need to get over the guilt and just do what works for me. And maybe manage the rest of my time so I'm getting as much done as I can when I do have time!

Oh yeah I hear ya. Nothing sweet is safe when I am stressed either.
I have a strong love for Quest Bars, but they are pricey and I always end up eating more than one.
This week's snacks have been chicken and veggies.
For dessert:
1 scoop protein powder
1 TBS dark chocolate cocoa powder
1 egg white
Enough water to get everything going.
Mix in mug and microwave for about 2:30. I put frozen blueberries in a bowl, top with cake and almond butter. It is quite good.
Another idea, homemade chocolate chips. Maybe for when your challenge is over.
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 TBS coconut oil
1 TBS honey
Mix all in a sauce pan, when melted , pour onto a small pan or cookie sheet and freeze. Break into pieces once frozen. Simple and yummy.

Stress eating is totally something I struggle with. Love your attitude of today is a new day:) I find myself trying to laugh at things instead of letting them get to me. At school it is a lot easier, with my family not so much.
Have a great day!! Let me know how it goes!!

Thanks for all your comments on my recent blogs. I just shouted you out in my newest blog -- you've been a big help. I totally understand what you're going through with Colorado Springs -- it sucks feeling like you don't fit in! But I'm glad you have an exit strategy -- I'm working on mine!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks meal planning is completely overwhelming! It is just food! But I have too much other stuff to deal with. I sat down last night and wrote down some ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks (I actually cheated, I have a book with 3 pages of 150 calorie snacks so that helped!). I really like the idea of just rotating the basic foods until I'm used to it. I just get worried that I'll get bored and over indulge one day! We'll see!
