Shared Food & Fitness Trackers
I have always struggled with weight loss, it seems. I have been in the "overweight range" on the BMI scale for some time now. I only lost all the weight 5 years ago for my wedding and gained it back soon after. Finally, I reached my top non-pregnancy weight 2 years after my son's birth at 167 lbs. I felt very helpless that I couldn't get the weight off. I had tried almost every infomercial gimmick there was. What stinks is that I am in the healthcare profession, so you’d think I'd know better.
As a graduate student, I ate a lot of junk food. When I became a resident, I started making a little money, so I ate better, however, I still ate too much. I am now a clinical pharmacist specializing in medication therapy management for patients with diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. I assist my patients in reaching their safe target levels through medication adjustments and encourage lifestyle changes (nutrition and exercise). Many times patients come into the office with a new "diet" they are trying. I always look into their special diet by doing some online searches and I either let them know if they are on the right track, however, oftentimes, these diets are very unhealthy and quite dangerous.
One day a patient came into the office to let me know of a new diet they were trying called the “Spark diet.” I can remember thinking, "oh no, not another diet." I told them that I would look into it and let them know if it was a safe diet. That night in January 2009, I did an on-line search of Spark people and I was immediately impressed and HOOKED. By that evening, I had started tracking my nutrition and setting my goals. It was the new year and I was truly ready for a change. Time to lose all the baby fat and to practice what I was preaching to my patients everyday. It was amazing to see how much food I was actually consuming.
The article that really changed my life and immediately catapulted my weight loss was the “9 cold hard truths about weight loss.” I often go back and read this article as a reminder. As you can see from my blogs and pics, this has been quite a roller coaster ride. However, I have been losing the weight steadily. I am now down to 139 lbs from 167 lbs in less than 6 months! What an accomplishment! I also squeezed into size 4 pants this week.
With my birthday coming up on 6/24/09, I am proud to give myself one of the best birthday gifts ever - the gift of a healthy start. I reached the “healthy weight” on the BMI chart on 6/10/09 at 139 lbs. When my colleagues compliment me on my weight loss I let them know that they can do it too, with the right tools. Sparkpeople has all the right tools needed. I could not have done it without Sparkpeople. I now have about 10 - 15 lbs to go and I am in the right place to reach my goals. I am surrounded by an audience of active motivators and the tools I need to get the weight off and to keep it off.
I remember one of my friends telling me that it takes too much time to fill in the information on the spark people website. I respond with the following quote in order to remind that they are worth the time needed to get the results they want: “If not you, then who. If not now, then when.” Also, I would like to conclude with another quote I retrieved from Sparkpeople which is hanging on the wall in my office: “You are what you do repeatedly, excellence, therefore is not an act, but a habit.”
Thank you Sparkpeople for helping me to know that I can ANYTHING I put my mind to.
Thanks to all my encouragers who leave encouraging comments and goodies on my blogs and spark page. It truly means the world to me!

My goal is to maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising and eating right. My goal weight is 125 lbs.
1200-1550 cals per day and have just started exercising again. My goal is to hit the gym 4-5 days a week. I drink at least 8 glasses of water (or propel zero) everyday.
Struggling with getting my sleep in, but doing better.
