I look big and terrible in this picture, which is why I chose it. Motivating, definitely.

My Visual Motivation Collage...LOL. I put healthy food on it.

November 2012. This picture makes me look thinner!

Holly's Weight Loss Extravaganza

Hello fellow sparkpeople. I'm 24 years old, and I first joined SP when I was 21. I lost about 15 pounds and kept it off for over three years and I was happy at that weight (though it wasn't my goal weight). Over three years later, I'm ready to try again. I have more realistic goals in mind this time, and I'm aiming to lose almost another 15 pounds again and get closer to my original goal weight.

Sparkpeople was the tool that helped me lose the weight I'd NEVER been able to lose before. I got educated and learned how to maintain the changes I made. I don't diet anymore. I decide to make permanent changes to my lifestyle. This is from a girl who was chubby and overweight since third grade.

As I go into this journey again, I'm mindful of the changes I can live with forever while still being healthy. I'm searching for changes that will balance my new weight and exercise goals with what I can actually maintain.

My husband has agreed to be supportive and try to lose weight, too. We're both at a weight that makes us "borderline" overweight, so we'd both like to be firmly in the "healthy" zone.

My Program:
I am making lifestyle changes I can live with. This means I'm not giving up sugar completely, or carbs, or salt. I'm just cutting down on them, listening to my tummy when it says it's full, and adding more exercise into my life.

Other Information:
I love to read and write, although you will find my writing on here isn't too exciting. It's just me organizing my thoughts.

Oh, trust me, I'm SLOW. When I started running two years ago, I was doing about 13 min/mile. I was very proud to progress to 10:30 min/mile when I was about a year into it and lost some of the weight. But even then, I was way on the tail end of my age group. In fact, the first thing I did when I finished the half-marathon was to look at the time sheets posted on the board to make sure I wasn't the last in my group... thankfully, I wasn't. :-p So you can still race even if you feel that you are slower than most of your peers. In the end, it's a race against yourself - to see how your own times improve as you train.

I did join a big running club here, HoustonFit. Unfortunately, it required a 15 to 20 minute drive one way just to get to the park to meet up with the group for a run. I did it for a while, but it got old fast - to get up at 5 am and waste 40 minutes just to drive back and forth for a run before work.

You're right though, if I really wanted to make that happen, I would've figured out a way to keep running. Problem is, I never found it very enjoyable - although it's probably the best form of cardio I can do.

So I just stick to my aerobics and now thai boxing... they may not be as intense as running non-stop for the same hour, but at least I like them enough to do them!
