A few years ago I decided that being 345 pounds was not the way I wanted to be. I couldn't ride my horse the way I wanted to, couldn't hike without feeling like I would die, and I felt self concious about eating in front of other people. Losing the weight is a hard road, but it is well worth it.
The Breast Cancer 3-day I walked in 2006 was the BIGGEST challenge I have ever done. It was also the most incredible experience I have ever had. I walked 38 miles. Would have done more, but I sprained my foot on the last day. I walked through blisters, heat, fatigue. This taught me persistance and the value of a goal. I spent the whole year training for the 3-day. It was an event that taught me that even though I didn't completely meet my goal, I could still be a success and a hero!
My newest had been facing 4-8 weeks without being able to workout due to surgery on my knee. I severely injured the cartilage in my left knee and had to have surgery. I will find a way to at least maintain my weight loss during this time. Any pounds lost, or exercise found will be bonus!
I am now cleared by my doctor. I am back to working with a personal trainer 2X a week, and starting the first of the year, I'll be doing Pilates 2X a week in addition to riding Falcao. With Karen, my personal trainer, I do 1 hour of pool workout including strength training one day, and a half hour of aerobics under supervision another day. It has been challenging because the half hour of aerobics is interval training, but I find I am enjoying it more than I thought I would I enjoy the flollopy (is that a word?) feeling after a good workout.
I am making time for my horse, work part time, Quilting, and my husband. I still make sure to make time for myself........ I have found that this is key!
Ride Prix St. George Dressage before I'm 60, (just 4 years away!) lose another 80 pounds.
An intermediate goal I have set for myself is to ride 3rd level by the end of this year.
I am riding my horse as often as I can to increase my skills as a rider, watching what I am eating and staying away from sugar (my downfall).
I am also taking Pilates and working twice weekly with a personal trainer. I need her to kick my butt every now and again, and listen when I need it. She is a real friend, too.
I was born in Chicago Illinois, and at the age of 13, my parents moved us to New Mexico. I met my husband in college there, and we were married 8 years later. We started owning horses shortly after we were married, although he is not a rider. We currently live in Tucson, AZ, and love it here. I quilt for a living and love my job.
I have learned that it is much easier to make an excuse why you CAN'T do something rather than do it. But the satisfaction comes from actually achieving something you thought was almost impossible for you. Tell the world, and it commits you to success.
