Hiking, walking, gardening...

I think this is about the fifth time I've sincerely started tracking and working here at Spark People. It seems to take a string of events to get me here and that string of events is different every time. I'm turning 40 this year and that was part of the tumult that got me here most recently. I really want to give myself the gift of health for my birthday. I have lots of plans for hiking and backpacking and need good health to meet those goals over the next 20+ years.

I finally feel like I'm where I need to be emotionally to lose the weight. I have a lot of helpful strategies in place to deal with sadness, anger, frustration and the like. In the past, it has been emotional turmoil that has drawn me back to uncontrollable eating.

The food is the most difficult part of the whole picture right now. It's such a habit to eat whatever I want that I struggle at some point every single day. I hope it gets easier!

Sorry, my computer encountered a will to not let me type, so I'll finish now. We went to Red Canyon just outside Bryce Canyon. Trails are awesome, filled with hoodoo's and variety of terrain, and not filled with tourists! On our 5 mile hike we only encountered 2 other people! We did discover how out of shape we are, but I also rediscovered I love hiking! And I am good at it. I really had to push Rob and some of the kids, so we didn't have to stop so often. At one point the older kids got too far ahead and we had to stop with the younger kids. I was worried at how far ahead they were, so I jogged to them on the trail. The trail was single file only, more like a deer trail. But it was so fun to jog up to them. I think I have found a passion. Now to pursue it without being gone from the kiddos so much. (I made them jog back with me to the group to teach them to stick together - they didn't appreciate that, haha)

We did 5 miles each day. The first we did five miles throughout the day on 3 different hikes. These were the first hikes we'd been on this summer. Then we did a five mile/5 hour hike the next day. We took our lunches and everything. That's a first for us.

Thanks for the spark goodie! :-) Today was a rough day as we are helping a resident pass away. I must have cried a half/dozen times today. I have a soggy bogged down feeling.

You are right, I should be cou;nting my active time in the garden. Yesterday, I was adjusting my drip system. You've seen the size of that garden. Talk about squats!! This morning after my walk I was wondering why I was so sore - and then I remembered. Rob and I also mucked out the chicken coop - yes very gross - but oh what a work out for my arms. They are barely holding up today. I must really be out of shape.
