I have been away from Sparkpeople for a while now. I had lost over 30 pounds, was training hard, and things were going well. In February 2010, i had won my first MMA ffight (after losing my first two). Then things kind of fell apart.

I have long had issues with chronic back pain and hypo-hypothyroidism. I was then diagnosed with sleep apnea and hypertension. About the same time, I suffered a shoulder injury. I had bad reactions to blood pressure medications. I suffered exhaustion, listlessness, susceptibility to illness, and worse, radical weight gain.

While I continued training Jiu Jitsu, to the extent that I was able, I lost most of my cardio, and gained back not only all the weight that I had lost, but even more.

Perhaps because I didn't want to dwell on these issues, I stopped logging in to SparkPeople. In recent weeks, I have begun training hard again. I earned my blue belt in Jiu Jitsu. And now I am back on SparkPeople. I realize that I am starting over on my wight and fitness goals, but it is time to get back to work on it in a systematic way. I look forward to sharing the journey with all of you who are on a similar path....

My goal at this point is to get my weight down to 205 pounds. I suspect that after that I will try for 185, but we will see when I get there.

Jiu Jitsu 4 X week
MMA training 2 X week
Wrestling class 1 X week
Weight Training 2 X week

    Thanks for the post on my blog (about the tornado). We are still trying to figure out what we are going to do. Strange how your life can change so dramatically from mother nature.
    I like your Sparkpage. Reminded me of my son's cub scout leader. He is a local cop. My hubby is a MMA fighter and helps out quite a bit. I asked him one day (the cop) "How would you handle one of these guys? Do you think you are trained enough to take them on?". His answer was "Thats why we carry tazer's and guns, so NO, I'm not too worried".

    Thanks for the post! Gunther is my youngest son, he is great! I have done a little bit of everything in law enforcement. Vice/Narcotics, SWAT, and just plan old uniform grunt. The last 8 years I have tried to slow down a little working with the state courts.
