Onward and DOWNward!

My 53rd birthday was in January, so it's more than time to get serious about the rest of my life. Been saying that for the past 3 years!

Have to work on not allowing stressful events in my life to derail my fitness plans. Because, let's face it, the stress ain't going away any time soon!

It's tough staying on track, but onward and upward I say! Um, I mean, DOWNWARD!

Previous Updates:
June 30, 2009: Halfway there!! WOO-HOO!!!

It's tough staying on track, but onward and upward I say! Um, I mean, DOWNWARD!

Previous Updates:
June 30, 2009: Halfway there!! WOO-HOO!!!

November 10, 2009: Been stuck in the mid-150's for a long time now, but I guess it beats the mid-170's! Three-quarters of the way to my goal!

January 7, 2010: Still in the mid-150's, but I've got my groove back! Gained a bit between Thanksgiving and New Year's, but I'm back on track and feeling good. Sitting just below 155 today!

February 9, 2010: At 151 as of last Saturday and have managed to hold it there for a couple days, so it must be real! That means I'm down 35 pounds, FINALLY. Just 5 more to my original goal weight (then we'll re-evaluate going farther).

May 23, 2010: Well, it took a lot longer than I ever thought it would, but I finally made my original 40 pound goal!! I'm not where I want to be, though, so I'm going to concentrate on some strength training and running to get fitter and maybe lose another 10....eventually.

July 19, 2010: Have to be honest...I've backslid a bit (the graduation party week did serious damage), and have been stuck at 150 for weeks. I feel like making progress has become impossible, but not ready to give up yet!

March 6, 2012: A long time away, and it shows. I allowed circumstances and gallbladder surgery (last year) to keep me stuck in the 150s for too long. I am currently at 154. Haven't seen the 140s since that brief visit in 2010, but I'm determined to get back there. At least it's not worse!! :)

My Goals:
Original Goals:
1. Lose 40+ pounds.
2. Get stronger.
3. Stop the back pain!
4. Run a 5K.

Progress:
1. 40 pounds off in May 2010 (146 pounds)! Back in the 150s soon after, though.
2. Yoga poses are getting easier! Need to work on strength.
3. Back pain is virtually gone! Yay!
4. Still working on the C25K program, just more gradually than most people!

My Program:
South Beach, more or less, with influences from Atkins and Eades. Limiting carbs, especially wheat, seems to make a big difference.
At least 30 minutes of cardio a day and sticking to my nutrition plan.
Walking/jogging in the morning, weather permitting. Also, yoga when I can fit it in.

Personal Information:
53-year-old mother of a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old, married for 20 years. Live in northeast Ohio with the aforementioned teen and husband, three cats, and a dog. Daughter is away at college, and Mom moved in 2 months ago.
Trying to learn to like being more active and really do enjoy not feeling stuffed all the time! Still threatened by my love affair with food.

Other Information:
I'm a HUGE John Bingham fan! Penguins Rule!!

Thanks for the goodie ,,, I'm always so blessed I just sometimes forget to see it. Had a wonderful day with my boy today. He's got a cough with the cold weather swinging in and his asthma. With the threat of flu I kept him home. Now to some this may seem not so much a blessing. But I got more hugs and got to play blocks and spend one on one time. We even made brownies from scratch. Do you know how amazing cracking an egg is to a 4 year old emoticon emoticon . Blessings come in many ways we just have to remember to count them.
Have a Blessed day.

Hi, Peggy!

Good luck on the Thirty Day Challenge starting tomorrow. We can all do this!

If you are determined and stick with it, this challenge will kick start your weight loss journey and your being able to acquire it by being binge free one day at a time.

Hugs,
Roxanne

Thanks so much for the input on my blog!! It really helps to talk to those that have done a 5K or half marathon. And let me tell you, 36 minutes is nothing to sneeze at! AWESOME job!! There must have been some really fast walkers on that course.

Thanks for cheering me up. You are very appreciated.

Joke of the day:
Two snowmen are standing in a field. One says to the other : "Funny, I smell carrots too".
