I started running races in 2010 to add some goals to my physical fitness training. I ran 5 races in 2010, all 5Ks. In 2011, I challenged myself to run more races and finish a half marathon. 2011 was an amazing year of running! I finished 18 races: 8 - 5Ks, 1 - 6K (trail), 3 - 5 mile (trail), 3 - 10Ks, 1 - 11K, and 2 half marathons. I hope to do more in 2012! So far, I want to run 5 half marathons! I love the challenge and I love the medals! I like to show them off and wear them to work - ...

I started running after age 50 - it has become a passion! Running helps me manage stress, stay active & energetic. I am trying to live a more youthful life and beat the clock!

PS,

I saw your comment on LUCKYDOGFARM's blog this morning about trying to get the courage to start your own blog. I want to encourage you to do it! I can't tell you how much the daily accountability has helped me to stay on track. It makes me think twice before blowing off a workout, or eating something that will put me over my daily calories. As Nike says, "Just do it!" I think you'll be glad that you did!

The Surf City marathon weekend events (marathon, half marathon & 5K) were sold out. This is one of the most popular races in Southern California. It was a chilly morning and here were a lot of people! I finished the Tinkerbell half marathon only 1 week before, so my plan was to see how I was feeling and walk the entire course. I felt good. It took an hour for my wave to get to the start line. Once we started, it was packed, so I walked for the first couple of minutes. I decided that I would run unless I got too tired, but for no more than a minute at a time, with at least 1 minute of walking in between. I also walked on any hills. It got warmer and the ocean was beautiful, you could see Catalina Island on the horizon. My strategy worked! I finished the race. I beat my Tinkerbell finish time by over 7 minutes. I felt a little dehydrated right after the finish, so I sat down and drank some water until it passed. I also took a 20 minute bath in cold water when I got home to reduce the inflammation in my legs. It worked and my legs feel much better than last week . I got my finishers medal! I am trying to get the Beach Cities Challenge medal for completing the Long Beach, Surf City and OC half marathons. I only have one race left to earn it. I saw someone wearing it yesterday - it is HUGE! I am motivated! I will be wearing my medal to work today.
