Weight has always been an issue for me. I've always been the chubby kid picked last for any type of sports team (even though I was actually really good!). As you can imagine, this lead to a lot of self-esteem problems and never feeling like I was good enough.

Well, things have changed quite a bit since then. When I was in High School a really great friend taught me how to love myself so I was then able to gain self-confidence and love others. He showed me that people should like me for me and if they don't, it's their own loss. This really helped me to feel comfortable in my own skin and really helped me to be myself and make amazing friends in college and beyond along the way.

I have tried this whole "diet" thing so many times in my life, usually with a little bit of success, but nothing to write home about...until now. I have started working out almost everyday and have been sticking with a lifestyle change for over 3 months now (a new record!), and I think that is key...this isn't a diet...it's a new way of living. The gym is no longer my enemy, it's my friend. The trainers aren't scary, they are there to help. They want you to succeed. I love getting hello's from people at the gym -- they recognize me. How odd is that? They have what I like to call the "we" mentality. It's always, don't worry "We'll get there." I'm not alone in this journey...you are jumping alongside with me. And, I want other people to know who are just starting their journey, that from what I've seen Sparkpeople also has the "we" mentality. You are not alone in this journey. We will get healthy together. We will get in shape together. We will do it.

Anyway, that shy kid from 3rd grade has now grown into a vibrant, vivacious, voisterous 26 year old woman. And she couldn't be happier with who she became. So far she is 23 pounds lighter, the best shape she has been in since she can remember, and is a very happy young lady...just looking for Mr. Right.

Just remember, we will do this together. You are not alone.

My Goals:
I would like to be able to run a 5k by this summer. The date has been set, May 2nd will be my first 5k. Completed in 36:11!

Next race: 4.5 miler November 26, 2009 then 13.1 mile half marathon May 8, 2010

I want to be able to look at myself in a photograph and not want to immediately rip it up.

I want to actually stick to a program for a change.

My Program:
I am working with a personal trainer at a gym in Indy to get started. I am strength training a 1-2 days a week and using the elliptical or treadmill at least 3-4 times a week.

Ohhhh......I don't know if I'm gonna set the bar that high for myself. 2 hours and 40 minutes tanslates into like a steady paced 12 minute mile. I think I am still just gonna aim to finish. But I will so be rooting for you...from behind you...probably quite a ways behind you...lol

I'm so happy you said that the event was fun. To be honest i'm pretty intimidated by it. I've met quite a few people who did it and they said there wasn't a lot of pressure associated with it. That's great news for me since I am just learning to be a distnace runner. I keep having this recurring fear though that I won't finish until the next day LOL. I have a year though, so I am really gonna try to at least finish. That's my goal. Just to finish.

Meg thank you for your support today and your advice. What a great idea do the test for her alone later on at practice , she may like that. Thank you your so smart. I hate letting people down and saying No to them. I should of just done it last night but chickened out. I have to do what the coach said though she is right can't take the distractions. My first test my friend was there and she did just that but that was with our coach we both shared. Now we have separate coaches so this would be better to listen to what she says. Thank you again. emoticon
