Mission: Dream Body

I lost 30lbs with SparkPeople back in 2009, and maintained for a while. I got serious about fitness, and learned all sorts of things. I was working at a warehouse, and was very active with a decent metabolism. Now that I have a desk job, all the weight I lost came right back, and I'm back to where I started.

My main goal is to lose body fat. I'd like to be down to 23-ish% body fat. Weight isn't the first thing on my mind this time, it's about being and looking healthy and ...

My main goal is to lose body fat. I'd like to be down to 23-ish% body fat. Weight isn't the first thing on my mind this time, it's about being and looking healthy and strong. I'm a strong woman inside, I want to be strong on the outside as well.

Some things I have learned along the way:

* Weight loss is a mind game. You have to know exactly what your boundaries are and stick to them no matter what.

* Once you're at goal weight, there's a LOT more work to be done. You won't look like you think you will in a bikini. You'll still have all the pockets of fat, but less of it. It takes a while to tone and even out, be patient! Don't stop working out just because you hit goal weight.

* While you're maintaining, it's very hard to change your mind frame from "No, I can't eat that" to "Yes, I need to get my calories in." This doesn't mean eat junk, it means eating more calories in healthy foods. Add some eggs to your burgers, add a little butter to your sandwiches, put a little coconut oil in your smoothies, etc.

* Know your body. If something doesn't agree with you, don't eat it. Even if it's on the food pyramid, and labeled "healthy" for you. It will cause you much more problems down the road. It's your body, not whoever it was that decided this or that food is healthy for you. Every body has different chemistry.

* Enjoy your workouts. Find something you find fun to do. If you don't enjoy it, chances are great that you won't continue after reaching your initial goals.

* You don't have to have a gym membership. Yes, ellipticals are great, and weight machines are handy. There are a lot of exercises that you can benefit more from that use your own body weight. There are also great workout videos out there. Do some research and find what works for other people.

*I focused more on strength training, rather than cardio, because I hated cardio with a passion. For that reason, my flab never went away. The easiest way to get rid of it is cardio cardio cardio!

* LOVE YOURSELF. Embrace who you are and run with it. You have one life, make it healthy and happy!

Hey there! Thanks for the nice comments on my page, and for letting me know that I'm not alone in this. Regarding the wine: it is Barefoot, Sweet Red. That's the whole of it. I'm not much of a drinker either, but I do love Guinness Black Lager, and this sweet red wine.

Here's to new friendships and good Irish beer! emoticon

Thank you for the nice comments on my page! By all means YES, lift weights. I blogged about that a couple of years ago in my blog "The Incredible Hulk Woman". If you go back through them (I'm sorry- there are a lot), you can find it.
