Back for good

I joined up around the same time last year ready to change. I wanted (and, of course, stil do) want to be the healthy role model for my two kids, but changing my body really has to do with me, JUST ME. I'm under the influence of a few very good things: Tosca Reno's books (particularly "Your Best Body Now" AND "The Eat-Clean Diet"; the collector's issue Oxygen magazine "Off the Couch!" I joined up around the same time last year ready to change. I wanted (and, of course, stil do) want to be the healthy role model for my two kids, but changing my body really has to do with me, JUST ME. I'm under the influence of a few very good things: Tosca Reno's books (particularly "Your Best Body Now" AND "The Eat-Clean Diet"; the collector's issue Oxygen magazine "Off the Couch!" Fall 2010 edition, with a little Dr. Roizen's "You on a Diet" thrown in. Perhaps, most influential, a long banner of graph paper on the wall above my bathroom scale that I chart my weight on every morning, before breakfast, in my pj's. I've been working out 5 days a week, usually only about 15 minutes, for the past three weeks, and the most significant benefits so far are that I just feel better, and I'm so happy I've stuck with my plan this long! The workouts (resistance training alternating days with ab exercises) are challenging but not so that they're off-putting. I have actually started taking a LOT of supplements, and I know that the best source of nutrients/minerals/vitamins/etc. is food, BUT I feel like these supplements really are just that- supplementing my diet. Everyday, I take green tea extract, gingko biloba, resveratrol, alpha-lipoic acid, coQ10, and a b-complex (with C). No, I don't take a multi on top of that! I spread them out in two doses, and always have them wuth a meal and water. I'm really excited about my progress, and I feel like THIS YEAR WILL BE THE ONE. I'm going to get strong, fit and energized :)))))))))))

JAN 21 UPDATE:
-I'm now working out 6-7 days a week, gradually adding new moves to my workouts and making each workout session longer
-Now fitting comfortably in used-to-be-too-tight pants
-No more mid-day slumps, energy levels are higher every day!

Hi! Just read your page and want to encourage you to read THE CHINA STUDY by T. Colin Campbell. It will address your desire to eat to prevent all the diseases you mentioned, and the best path to doing that is low-fat vegan. Good luck! There is lots of support in the veg/vegan group. Mary

I agree with your blog. I worry the same about making the right influences on my 2 young boys. I want them to realize all that i am doing is for my health not for my 'weight loss'. I try to talk tooo much out loud around them about losing weight, because I don't want them to get mixed signals. I know in their minds there is nothing wrong with mommy so why is she trying to change who she is? My son is really making poisitive comments about foods and certain things. he asked me Saturday morning if pancakes are good for you. We were eating pancakes. I said most are not, but htese are. I made organic wheat ones and they tasted execellent. So, I know the pressure of making the right influence on your children and not reflecting emotional eating into their world. I totally struggle with that. If mommy wants a donut guess who si going to want one as well. Good luck with all you're doing. I know the struggles.
