Shared Food & Fitness Trackers
I decided that my Spark Page needed a face lift. When I started this journey in November 08 it was all about weight loss. Now that is not necessarily a bad thing, BUT I have learned so much and come so far that it is about me being healthy. I started this journey hating to exercise and generally lazy. I got myself a gym membership and a personal trainer and now I am lifting weights and running. I quit smoking and feel great. I really am getting to be in the best shape of my life.
I have started collecting motivational quotes. To help me remember them I an going to start putting them here:
Today is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." Mark Twain
It's very hard in the beginning to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to quit." -George Sheehan
"Last is just the slowest winner." - C. Hunter Boyd
“Hope is faith holding out its hand in the dark.”
Your biggest challenge isn't someone else. It's the ache on your lungs and the burning in your legs, and the voice inside you that yells 'CAN'T'. But you don't listen. You just push harder. And then you hear the voice whisper 'can'. And you discover that the person you thought you were is no match for the one that you really are.
"There will be days that you do not know if you can run a marathon; there will be a lifetime of knowing you did."
Pain is how weakness leaves the body.......
'Our running shoes are really erasers. Every step erases a memory of a past failure. Every mile brings us closer to a clean slate. Each footstrike rubs away a word, a look, or an event that led us to believe that success was beyond our grasp.'
"The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare."
-Juma Ikangaa, 1989 NYC Marathon winner
"In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, 'I have finished.' There is a lot of satisfaction in that."
-Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon co-founder
"We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves...The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, 'You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.' The human spirit is indomitable."
-Sir Roger Bannister, first runner to run a sub-4 minute mile
"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."
-John Bingham, running speaker and writer
"You also need to look back, not just at the people who are running behind you but especially at those who don't run and never will... those who run but don't race...those who started training for a race but didn't carry through...those who got to the starting line but didn't in the finish line...those who once raced better than you but no longer run at all. You're still here. Take pride in wherever you finish. Look at all the people you've outlasted."
- Joe Henderson
"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."
-Steve Prefontaine, American running legend
Gatorade ad:"You have a choice. You can throw in the towel, or you can use it to wipe the sweat off of your face."
Do or do not. There is no try.
Running is different from other sports, all the others require just one ball
Win: What’s Important Now
"Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win." Tom Fleming
"The woods are lovely dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep." Robert Frost
If God invented marathons to keep people from doing anything more stupid, the triathlon must have taken Him completely by surprise. P.Z. Pearce
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
"You will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor."-Aristotle
A woman is like a tea bag, you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water -- Nancy Reagan
