Hello, I am Paula a 49 year old married mother of two. Jake 21 and Sarah 20.

Currently weight in at 53.8 kilo's I aim to maintain at 52 kilo's.

I left sparkpeople a while ago. I decided to come back to sparkpeople to really get my weight loss under control this time.

I know I am not obese by any means but still for me I have too much weight on for my hips to carry around.

I have slight hip osteoarthritis in both hips. Doctors and specialists told me a few years ago I would need to have 2 hip replacements which I refused to have, or at least put off as long as possible. I am doing things naturally, fixing my diet, weight loss and the like.

I also have Scoliosis in my back have had it since I was a teenager. I wore a back brace then for 2 years which prevented it getting any worse.

My issues make exercising very difficult. So am unable to do much of that other than normal stuff like housework, gardening when I am able.

I try to eat healthy and organically where possible and avoid all preservatives and additives and processed food where and when I can. Plus I am wheat free not Gluten free & trust me when I tell you there is a difference between the two because there is.

I Drink reverse osmosis water from my water filter. Use Australian made and owned cleaning products that are non toxic and without any harsh chemicals.

I have interests in candles, reading, feng shui, computers, positive thinking, spirituality, new age thinking, Leptin Diet, soccer and gardening & beginning Sewing / quilting to name a few.

I wish everyone who views my Spark Page success with your health & weight loss and other goals.

Remember it's not a diet but a healthy lifestyle!

Take Care and Keep Smiling, Paula :)

If you are like me and have had or raised children. Then you know that our kids look to us to set examples for them to follow.

It isn't always easy to do. Especially when it comes to what we eat and fitting in exercise. Most of us lead busy lives and sometimes it isn't easy to fit in regular exercise, but unless you make it a priority, you are risking your child becoming a couch potato and junk food junkie.

So where do we start. We start by taking them shopping with us and teaching them to pick out healthy whole grains, fruit, vegetables and lean meats, poultry or fish.

I have always tried to make my sons part of the process even in the kitchen. When it comes to handling the food that is just as important as knowing how to pick it out if we want it to remain healthy enough to eat. That is why wash, rinse and sanitize is such an important fact to remember when it comes to food prep and handling.

After the shopping is done and everything is put away. Dinner is over with, we have the choice of sitting in front of the tv or going to our rooms and playing video games. Not in my house. We would go for a walk, bike ride or often a hike across the canal in the woods around Peanut Lake. The boys to this day are still very active and even belong to gyms. I am so proud that they take an active roll in their relationships as adults in meal planning and exercise.

Remember that also snack planning is just as important. Not just for the children, but for those of us that want to eat healthy. We can prepare our snacks ahead of time and have them ready to go in a snack bag. This makes snacking healthier and convenient.

So how about you, are there any suggestions that you can think of ?

Hi Paula, thanks for your encouragement! I do have one or two photo's but frankly I feel like a walking before picture still, as I need to lose alot of weight. I don't really like looking at them, or myself in the mirror because it makes me feel down and discouraged at how far I let myself go. Would rather imagine myself as fitter and stronger - that keeps me motivated! I am enjoying feeling better and some days I love eating healthy and walking and other days, hmmm, not so much! It's a journey.
Hope you are having a great week my friend!
