The Polar Bear and his Cat at a friend's wedding July 2009. My face is looking slimmer!
10/07 A few pounds lighter, but before cancer and chemo!
Back here again. But this time with a different perspective and a different program.
I'm back in the 150's after a winter of indulgence. Time to get my spark back.
"For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come."
I'm in the midst of my summer surge of discipline and diet (no, make it "lifestyle"!) and it feels so good. I'm down 10 pounds in 2 months. Now if I can just keep the momentum going for another 10 pounds!
Spring is here, and it's time to buckle down and lose the 10 pounds I gained back.
In 2007 I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. After a lumpectomy, chemo, and radiation, I was in menopause and felt 100 years old. A friend told me about a gym that gave breast cancer patients free memberships. I joined and began to get back some of my fitness. Then the gym went out of business, but fortunately transferred my membership to a wonderful Sport and Health club.
Even though I now pay dues, I love this club for the wide variety of classes and equipment. I take Ballet, Zumba, Ballroom Dancing, and Pilates. When I first joined, I enjoyed the nutrition tracker that was complimentary the first three months, but couldn't justify paying for it after that, in addition to the dues. As I checked online for a similar tracking, I found Spark People. The resources, accountability, and encouragement here are fantastic!
Quote of the day:
"There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results." Kenneth Blanchard
"This weight preoccupation will never lead us anywhere. It is a maniacal maze that always spits you out at the same point it sucked you up: wanting. We keep chasing after perfection as if it is an achievable goal, when really it is the most grand and painful of all mirages.
Food can fill our stomachs but never our souls.
Possessions can fill our houses but never our hearts.
Sex can fill our nights but never our hunger for love.
Children can fill our days but never our identities.
"Every time I talk to a savant I feel quite sure that happiness is no longer a possibility. Yet when I talk with my gardener, I'm convinced of the opposite."Bertrand Russell
"I would rather wear whatever I want than eat whatever I want.
This will not the last time that I will ever see chocolate cake and I don't have to eat it because it's there.
Being overweight and unhealthy is hard. Losing weight and getting healthy is hard. Pick your hard.
The thing you are putting in your mouth tastes the same as the last time you ate it, nothing has changed, so why are you tasting it again? and if you can defeat your 3-4 inch tongue you're good to go, cause just as you swallow something the satisfaction is gone, It is just your 3-4 inch tongue.
If you make a mistake and drive through a red traffic light you do not have permission to go through all the red traffic lights you see all day. So why do it with food?"
"If you went running when you first started thinking about it, you'd be back by now." (DRS510)
"Change of diet will not help a man who will not change his thoughts." James Allen (NORTHWOODSMOM8)
"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
"Dancing at a wedding and feeling really damn sexy feels a gazillion times better than anything I could ever eat. " MANDY626
"Wisdom is knowing what to do, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it."
"We have a choice every day - to act on yesterdays good intentions, or get an early start on tomorrows regrets."
" We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons. "
"Our running shoes are really erasers. Every step erases a memory of a past failure. Every mile brings us closer to a clean slate. Each footstrike rubs away a word, a look, or an event that led us to believe that success was beyond our grasp." -John Bingham
"Most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you're listening to yourself, instead of talking to yourself. The main art in the matter of spiritual living is to know how to handle yourself. You have to take yourself in hand, you have to address yourself, preach to yourself, question yourself, you must say to your soul, 'Hope, thou in God,' instead of muttering in this depressed unhappy way, you must go on to remind yourself of God. Who he is. What God is and what God has done and what God has pledged himself to do." Martyn Lloyd Jones
"History is not destiny."
"I will do what I need to do, in order to do what I want to do. "
Do some form of exercise every day: running, walking, dancing, yard work
I live in northern VA just outside the beltway. My husband and I also spend time in the mountains of western NJ on the small hobby farm where my husband grew up. We've been married 8 years, no children (if only we had met 10 years earlier!), but one spoiled furbaby-- our cat Mosby.
I also have a small catering business that sometimes puts me in temptation's path!
