Since I started on Spark in September 09, have lost about 10kg - more than 10% of my body weight. It's a slow process, there are plateaus, even the odd, small weight gain. But I now have only 12lbs to go, and you know what? I'm in no hurry. It would be good to get to 10 stone (140 lbs, 63.5 kilos) before we go to France in August, but if I don't, I don't. My Goals:
To get down to 10 stone, the weight I was for most of my adult life. I'd also like a waistline again, but if not, I'll get a corset!

My Program:
I've been using a pedometer for over 4 yrs, averaging 10,000 steps per day. I've lately upped my cardio at the gym to 175 minutes per week, and have cut out animal fats and most dairy. I've never bothered with calorie counting, but am going to do it now, just to help with my portion control problem.

Personal Information:
I'm from Islington, North London. I love travelling, have been all over the world, but London is home.

Other Information:
I'm a writer, which means I sit on my backside in the mornings.

Thanks for the idea of valerian as a sleep aid. I've heard of it, but didn't know what it was used for. Do you have any side effects, any cautions?

Plinth, I just saw one of your postings on a message board, and laughed uproariously at your "There are ten types of people in the world" quote. Hee! I love that I have Spark friends who are smart enough (okay, NERDY enough) to sign off with a quote like that. emoticon

Well, the trip started badly, and rapidly got much, much worse. We went backpacking without a plan, had never been to India before. Ended up in Kashmir, where they held us hostage on a houseboat and would not let us off until we agreed to buy a tour of Rajasthan. They were abusive, racist and threatened violence - said they would cancel our flights back to Delhi unless we signed up. We'd already paid for those flights, said we'd go to the police.

"Police! Don't make me laugh, this is Kashmir. Nobody cares about you - you are old people, you are nothing, I will throw you in the water and nobody will know about it"

We got out of it using cunning and deceit - age and treachery will always win over impetuous and foolish youth, but it was quite hairy at the time. After that it improved, and by the end we were really enjoying ourselves. I know at our age we should be going on safe package tours, sitting in a coach all day, but we've never been the type.
