Since I started on Spark in September 09, have lost about 10kg - more than 10% of my body weight. It's a slow process, there are plateaus, even the odd, small weight gain. But I now have only 12lbs to go, and you know what? I'm in no hurry. It would be good to get to 10 stone (140 lbs, 63.5 kilos) before we go to France in August, but if I don't, I don't. I'm heading in the right direction, no longer eating huge portions or roasting veg in gallons of olive oil. Have given up butter and ...

My Goals:
To get down to 10 stone, the weight I was for most of my adult life. I'd also like a waistline again, but if not, I'll get a corset!

My Program:
I've been using a pedometer for over 4 yrs, averaging 10,000 steps per day. I've lately upped my cardio at the gym to 175 minutes per week, and have cut out animal fats and most dairy. I've never bothered with calorie counting, but am going to do it now, just to help with my portion control problem.

Personal Information:
I'm from Islington, North London. I love travelling, have been all over the world, but London is home.

Other Information:
I'm a writer, which means I sit on my backside in the mornings.

I found your comments on growing up with food rationing very interesting. I didn't experience a formal version of that, but lived in a family that was extremely impoverished for long periods of time and we went hungry sometimes. I will never be one of those people who cheerfully says, "Throw it out!" Sometimes food does need to be thrown out, but I can't do that without thinking about what it really means to throw away food. Thanks for an interesting perspective we don't always hear. --Carrie

Thank you for your encouragement.
Let me know how your France trip was. I lived there for a year, and enjoyed
my travels very much.

Keep your chin up and your eyes on your goals.

I just have to say that your comment recently on the Religion thread of SparkCafe was to the point and very eloquent. I will try to remember your words. "Hectoring people about what they should do, not do, believe, wear, eat etc., has never been an effective way of converting anyone - it puts them off if anything. Like most people here, I'm on spark to lose weight. The fact that I think religion is simple superstition has nothing to do with it - we are all entitled to believe what we want - anything that gets you through the day.

I have no interest in changing what you believe,"

I can use this for the people hectoring about political views as well.

Dinner looks FABULOUS!

I have to admit that at times I am appalled at what people track that they eat and then are baffled why they haven't lost weight. I understand the occasionally cheat, slip, whatever BUT when their tracker is filled day after day with JUNK. High fat, low to little value, no vegi's or fruits and then they wonder why they don't see progress! I'm BLOGGING THIS ONE!
