Hello, my name is Nichole. I am 29-years-old, & am 6 feet tall.

I have struggled with my weight ever since I graduated high school 11 years ago. Before then I remember thinking I was fat and dieting - however; looking back at pictures I was just "normal". In 2002 I weighed my heaviest at 260 pounds. The fad diet then was the Atkins diet, so I tried it. That along with going to Curves 6 days a week got me down to 200 pounds. I was a lot thinner, but still so unhappy. I turned 21 in 2003 and started to party hard. Partying became more important than eating right and exercising, so I gained it all back over the course of 2 years (plus some).

In November 2005 I weighed 270 pounds and my now husband proposed to me. I wanted a late spring/early summer wedding, so it was time for another fad diet. I ordered Phentermine from a website on the computer and started Atkins again. I lost 50 pounds and was a beaming and beautiful bride at my wedding. However, after the honeymoon I started eating badly again and stopped taking the Phentermine. I gained it all back plus even more. I now weighed 290 pounds.

In spring 2008 I weighed 307 pounds and started researching the Lapband. I knew of a really popular bariatric surgeon in Denver and went to him. I qualified for the surgery and had all my medical/ psychological clearances. I paid OUT OF POCKET and had the Realize Band placed around my stomach October 2, 2008. I lost 40 pounds by thy time March 2009 hit...However, I started to slip. I started eating around my band and eating what we bariatric people call "slider food".

June 23, 2011 (my 5 year wedding anniversary) I took a pain pill for a back injury I got earlier in the week and ended up getting an emergency unfill at the hospital. I also found out that I had gained all my weight back. It was such a hard thing having to tell my husband that I had screwed up and was defeated. I wasn't even able to lose weight with a Lapband! It was time to make a change.

That was when it clicked...I have a Lapband, but it only works if I work it. It is merely a tool used in conjunction with proper nutrition and exercise. Anyone that thinks getting a Lapband is “the easy way out” hasn’t met me. It is hard work!

This brings me to current time...I am on the path to health and releasing weight little by little as the weeks pass.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.
