Fitness really helped me through my pregnancy. Baby is about to be a year, and I am ready to push myself back into more focused fitness. 👻
Adding a new chapter to this intro: We''re pregnant! Baby is due 9/1/2014, and I''m ecstatic. I''ll be hanging out on SparkPeople and BabyFit to keep healthy and fit throughout this new phase of my life.
I''ve been on Sparkpeople since April 2007 (yikes!).
I remember those early days so well: I hated the me I saw in the mirror. Only in my mid-twenties, and all I could see was, ''you''re only going to get fatter from here.'' It was a horrible focus in the wrong direction.
It was also not a huge success. My focus was on weight-loss, not on health.
It wasn''t until after my wedding in 2009 that I really decided to change. My husband liked to run, and I was feeling so depressed and anxious I thought I''d give it a shot. We started Couch to 5k, and I hated it. I cursed at my poor husband, I''m ashamed to say, almost every running interval). The ''magic'' didn''t happen until after 3 weeks in.
The ''magic'' wasn''t weight loss. It was restfulness. I felt better, even though I didn''t look much better. Running was getting easier, and I---for the first time in a long time---wanted to be better. So I kept going until I finished the program, and kept running from there.
It''s been a whirlwind UP ever since. Healthy habits make you want more healthy habits: running is a staple, I started circuit and weight training, we started learning about nutrition and began to adjust our diets a little bit at a time. Somewhere along the line I decided I didn''t need to lose as much weight as I thought, and I just sort of starting to happily maintain.
I am the leanest, strongest, and happiest I have ever been. Eating green, fresh food has become a pleasure. Drinking soda (something I once thought I could not live without) never even appeals to me anymore. When I do decide to indulge in a treat, I don''t berate myself for it or even worry about what it will do to my hips, because I know it''s not going to become a habit.
I''m happy. I want everyone to feel this good, so I am telling you the secret (though I suspect you already know it, and just haven''t lived it yet): there is no secret.
We will have rough days, but when you are kind to yourself and focus on what *good* choice you can make instead of worrying over some bad thing you might have done, you''ll make progress. Love yourself enough to add a little healthy food, to take a slightly longer walk today than you did yesterday; you''ll be a happier person for it.

Diet: Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian diet. I watch my calories, but not fretfully. Mostly we try to eat recognizable/whole foods and add more greens.
Exercise: HIIT training, cardio (mostly running), some stretching and yoga
I like rainy days, good books, Edgar Allan Poe's poetry, crocheting, and writing. I'm a nerd for language-study.
