i am 27 years old and, after struggling with eating disorders for much of my adolescent life, my weight finally stabilized for several years. recently, though, my weight began creeping steadily upward, and i got harder and harder on myself. now, having met the man of my dreams and planned a may, 2010 wedding, i'm ready to lose those extra pounds and start my marriage in a healthy, balanced, loving way. loving, that is, of others and, perhaps especially, of myself.

emotional eating remains a challenge of mine, as does all-or-nothing thinking. (you know, the mindset that says, "i ate a piece of chocolate and so now may as well clean out the fridge and forego the workout." yeah, not good.) but with exercise, a healthy dose of honesty, and some good, long, deep breaths, i know that i can do it. and your support, of course, helps!

My Goals:
to make exercise a priority, and to focus on its mental health benefits as just as important as its benefits to my physical health.

to eat when i'm hungry, and to eat what i want, as opposed to eating to fulfill an emotional need and only the "good foods." all foods are good, after all, and part of a healthy, balanced diet.

to continue to make connections as part of the spark community, accepting their support and offering support of my own.

I'm originally from South Carolina, but am currently living in Iowa City, IA. And while trained as a hospital chaplain, I am now working as a nanny and trying to decide what the next step will be: back to school for an MSW, off to another city and state for a job, or another track altogether?

    thank you so much. you wrote that at the best time for me. i had a bad calorie day yesterday. i gave blood and overdid it with the free cookies! guess i havent had a cookie in awhile.

    Hello and happy new year! Hope 2010 is off to a fantastic start for you. How's everything going? Haven't yet had a chance to check out your new blogspot, but definitely look forward to doing so. Are you still doing the 30 Day Challenge? I'm on Day 14 after having taken all of December off in lieu of sitting on my lazy bum. It feels great to be active again I know that for sure! I'd love to hear how you're doing.

    I hope you are recovering and ready to go and get back in the game!

    I needed a BIG break with everything that was going on in my life...I swear the last month of the year was horrible! Now, I'm back and I've lost all the weight I put on from the holidays (about 5 lbs) just through my diet right now. I plan on getting back into the gym routine this weekend and re-gain all the muscle mass I've lost in the past weeks.

    Glad to hear from you and we'll get to our goals this year for sure!
