Have feet. Must walk.
Wow, look at me! I'm blogging. This is as amazing as the fact I have kept to my walking program for 5 months and have logged my 700th mile today. I'm not sure I've ever been so loyal ever in my life. I started when I checked out a blog from a woman who is celebrating the year she turned 50 by walking an hour a day for a year. I decided to try it with her. That was in November 2009, the month before I turned 60. It just felt right but I wasn't real consistant. Then in January, I remembered I had once checked out a virtual walk site. I Googled it and found Walk Across America and now I only look back to see who might be getting ready to pass me. My beginning goal was to walk 20 miles a week. Now it's 40 and I usually get in 50. I thought walking to our local Wal-Mart-a 5 mile round trip-would be a major goal, now it's on the short walk list and I set my sights on walking around Fremont Lake-11 mile loop. Done. No sweat. Actually there was a lot of sweat that day. 80 degrees in April in Michigan. I guess that's why the shower was invented. Right now I don't have any special place to conquer but I am looking forward to taking some long walks along the shore of Lake Michigan. Next summer I hope to do an actual walk on the Appalachian trail-not the whole thing but a long weekend hike would be fun Oh yeah, I Do have a new goal. There is a nature walk in the dunes made up mostly of a stairway. The last time I was there I lost consciousness(figuratively) somewhere around the 300th step so I don't know how many there are total. This year, I'll be alert, breathing and counting on the last step, I have a feeling meeting this challenge won't be as disappointing as the other 2 were.
