I almost hesitated to say, but yes, it is completely banal to have 2 castles in close proximity in France. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if there were more (behind high gates, not easy to see) in Pierrefonds.

In the little town where I live (2,000 inhabitants) near Paris, there are at least 3 castles that I know of! Or 2 castles at least and one big manor that could be considered a castle... These were 'weekend getaways' for aristocrats living in Paris, centuries ago! At the time it must have taken half a day to get here from central Paris I expect, and it must have been completely the countryside! Now it takes 15 minutes by train! But it is still a lovely place... The castles sadly are rarely privately owned nowadays because it cost soooo much!!! In my town, one is a children's hospital, one is a highschool, and one is a music school.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments on my blogs, always so appreciated! emoticon

Sounds like you left about the time we arrived... we got there in June of 85, and left in 93, yo-yo'd back to NY in 95. I left again to take work out here in 98. Divorced in 2003, he got the house in NY, I kept the one in NE. Son chose to come to me, after sampling both, at age 19.

Ever hear of a little village called Newark Valley? Midway between Binghamton and Ithaca, I'm very familiar with the Southern Tier of NYS! That's where "OneKid" was mostly raised.

About trying on wetsuits... those little suckers are snug, even when they fit perfectly... trying them on inside where it's cool and dry? Not the same as putting them on in transition before heading out to swim. But, yes, I have considered doing that... also the open water swim training group is heading out for a lake swim at 7 Sunday morning and I'll probably take her along in the car for the ride, just in case the water temp is low enough for a practice swim in a wetsuit! If so, I'll know for sure.

In the meantime, just the image is enough to scare me straight on the nutrition front!
