One Small Change

2014 will be my year. I will make healthy choices. I will run in a 5k race. I will be organized around the house. I will be kind to myself and to others.

In 2012 and 2013 I went on countless diets all with very little success. I would say that over the last 2 years I've lost about 40 pounds and put on 50 pounds. Down 1, up 2. Down 5, up 7, etc.

However, I did learn. I learned that I am less hungry if I have a big protein heavy breakfast. I learned that eating more ...

I learned that eating more fruit keeps my skin clear. I learned that I have one day a month where I am highly (and I mean HIGHLY) "emotional" (raging, screaming, weeping, binge eating mess). I learned that I have a good life and am very grateful for it.

So this is what I will do in 2014:
1. Run a 5k in December in less than 45 minutes.
2. Lose weight each month.
3. Be aware of the "Day of Rage" and learn to manage it better so those around me don't get hurt.

Strategies:
1. Exercise for 10 minutes every day. Use the Spark videos, go for a walk, do SOMETHING.
2. Track all food in Spark tracker. Every single thing.
3. Weigh myself once a week and only once a week.
4. Learn breathing and other techniques to control anger and frustration.
5. Give myself a break. Ask for help. Say "No" more often. Take advantage of offers of help. Arrange a babysitter every couple of months.
6. Eat a protein heavy breakfast. Eat more fruit as snacks. Avoid sugar and wheat.
7. Go grocery shopping when fruit & vege are running low.
8. If one week, even if it's the first week, I don't lose weight or I even put weight on, keep on going. Think about the other benefits, not just weight loss. Is my skin looking good? Do I have more energy? Am I happier?
9. Be aware of my emotions. Be aware that I eat more when I am sad. Instead of eating, go for a walk.
10. Don't look back and don't look too far forward. Live in the moment and enjoy it. No harm in dreaming, but don't let those dreams prevent living life NOW.
11. Put makeup on, pay attention to my appearance, take pride in myself.

So that's it. That's what I will achieve and how I will do it.

You are most welcome.
We have had some perfect weather- lovely warm days and cool nights. Very autumnish for a couple of weeks now. The last heat wave was followed by a rain deluge that caused lots of flooding. We were okay. Last Thursday we had tickets for a corporate box at the Clipsal V8 race meeting. We were amazed the food was so healthy. No fried stuff. Fun day.
Hope it is getting warmer for you. This extreme weather has been tough!

Thanks for your support. This heat is extreme and will be continuing for a couple more days. I don't know how the tennis players do it.
