~Pele's journey to the finish line~

I am 35 years young and re-learning to live and enjoy my life, thanks to SparkPeople. When I joined SparkPeople, I had no idea how attached I would become to the program and lifestyle. Now it is a HUGE part of my life and I couldn’t imagine living without it.

I am 35 years young and re-learning to live and enjoy my life, thanks to SparkPeople. When I joined SparkPeople, I had no idea how attached I would become to the program and lifestyle. Now it is a HUGE part of my life and I couldn’t imagine living without it.

My parents were overweight while I was growing up. I was thin as a child and even after having my son I only weighed 120 pounds. It wasn’t until 13 years ago when I got my first office job that my parents curse of being overweight hit, and stayed on me, like a ton of bricks, or should I say.…fat.

The month before I started SparkPeople, January 2006, I saw my cardiologist, Dr. Hemphill, which turned out to be a major eye-opener for me and also the beginning of my journey which has led me to where I am today. He looked at me and told me that luckily I don’t have diabetes and remarkably my cholesterol levels are within the normal range but if I didn’t do something about my weight that I will probably not get that same news the next time that I see him. He said, “Heather, if you can’t lose the weight yourself, then you need to consider the gastric bypass surgery.” That was exactly what I needed to hear because I took great offense to the fact that somebody could suggest that I would need the surgery because I couldn’t do it myself. I told him that “if I can put the weight on by myself, then I can take it off by myself” and before he left the room I made a bet with him that I would lose 20 pounds before my next appointment which is in July 2006.

It took me a month after my cardiologist appointment to find SparkPeople and by the time I joined on February 13, 2006 I was a whopping 274.2 pounds. Hey, what can I say, I give everything that I do 110% effort, be it positive or negative. Unfortunately, when it came to my weight it was in a negative direction. I didn’t need anybody sabotaging me; I had been doing a good job of that all by myself.

My goal is to get back down to 130 pounds and then go see Dr. Rey or Dr. Li from the Dr. 90210 show and have him/her remove the last 15 pounds via a tummy tuck, liposuction (if needed) and a breast lift and augmentation.

Oh and by the way…..I won my bet with Dr. Hemphill. I ended up saying good-bye to over 45 pounds in less than 5 months.

As my son would say....peace out.
