Life changes, embrace it, or get left behind!

Hi, my name is Paul and I am 37 years old and live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Time to clean up and rewrite a bit of my profile. My life has changed profoundly over the last 18 months and most of what I had written here, simply no longer applies and is no longer part of who I am on a day to day basis.

Hi, my name is Paul and I am 37 years old and live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Time to clean up and rewrite a bit of my profile. My life has changed profoundly over the last 18 months and most of what I had written here, simply no longer applies and is no longer part of who I am on a day to day basis.

Yes I *was* almost 300 lbs, and I worked hard to lose about 70 of that to this day. With the help of sparkpeople, friends and family I am now under 230 lbs and don't remember feeling any better and being any happier. In 2007/2008 I was close to 300 lbs, a pack or two a day chain smoker, and alone. I spent way too many hours on the couch watching movies, or playing online games (MMORP's) to escape and avoid what needed to be done. And that was to simply - get off my a$$ and start living!

Fast forward: September 12th, 2011 - I ran 18kms. On September 25th I will run my first 1/2 Marathon. Like I said I am down to 230 ish pounds. I feel good, I have been smoke free since 2008, and I have an incredibly amazing girlfriend, with which I am in the process of moving in with, and life couldn't be any better. Oh and I still watch lots of movies and play games - just a way different priority now ;)

My plan was and is:

3. Use sparkpeople to log my food and activity to see visually what I am doing right or wrong.

2. Joined and continue to be part of the Running Room and to run. An inspiring and supportive group of like minding runners who keep me moving, inspired and accountable.

October 12, 2011 - Update -

I have a baby girl on the way with my amazing spouse, Penny who I met through sparkpeople, Runningwild, she is due November 7th, 2011 - I can't wait :)

Also as far as the running goes - I ran my 9th Half Marathon on the weekend :) Wow, who woulda thought...

August 1, 2012 - Update -

Wow, time really does go by quickly when you are busy. Our baby girl (Emily) is now 9 months old and is amazing! Unfortunately I put running on the side-burner for a bit, and still ate like I was running a half every month like I was, so I gained a bunch of weight back - but I'm back here updating my goals, getting back on the pathways and watching what I eat, so I should be back in shape in no time :)

paul, thanks for sharing penny and roo with us this weekend, all i can say is you have 2 very special women in you life. we did take good care of them and got them back safe and sound, thanks again!

Thanks for commenting on my blog and congrats on your time at the half!! Pretty sure my friend and I were running next to you for a good 30 minutes, when you did your walk break we would pass you then when we went on walk break you would pass us!!! You were my 'goal person' to keep near for the first part of the race so thank you very very much for helping me!!!
