Toby and I
Our newest granddaughter, Lacie Elizabeth, born on March 30, 2008.
Mariner of the Seas, currently our favorite ship to cruise on.
Tonga-nox-ie. Tonganoxie. It's a quaint little town about a 20-30 minute drive from 3 major cities, Kansas City, Lawrence and Leavenworth, Kansas. And this is where we have called home since Thanksgiving 2004.
We have 6 children and 6 grandchildren and two more on the way.
My favorite things to do are spend time with my husband, grandchildren and cruise/travel!
I know there are people that say their favorite thing to do is eat. Eating is not one of my favorite things per se. In fact it is very hard for me to get in my minimun 1200 calories a day. I have an apprecitation for food that a lot of people don't understand.
When I was a child, one of the many comments that was made around our dinner table was about being thankful for the food that was being served because there might come a day when you wished you had that food to eat. I do know what it is like to go hungry (this was due to an abusive relationship). I do understand what those "starving children in other parts of the world" must feel like, and I do have a problem with not "cleaning your plate" or letting "your eyes be larger than your stomach." All of these things added together made for some unhealthy subconscious ideas about food.
I just can't stand to see food wasted (which is not a bad thing). So when I did eat, which used to be only once a day, at dinner, and only after I was sure my children had enough, everything on my plate was consumed, even if my eyes were bigger than my stomach.
Even after I got out of the abusive relationship where I was not allowed to eat for two weeks at a time, I still had small children to feed. So the pattern of eating poorly continued for 10 more years.
Then I met and married, truly, the man of my dreams. And by this time my eating patterns had been so embedded into my life that I was always able to rationalize why I needed to continue to eat that way and besides, I was a smaller size than I was when I graduated from high school.
Now, 11 years later, the children are grown and are going about finding their way in life, and I have more time for myself. Then the day came that I had time to stop and actually look in the mirror. That is when I really realized how large I had gotten. And I couldn't understand why. How does anyone that only eats once a day become 60 pounds overweight?
Thus, the beginning of my journey and my discovery of SparkPeople!
My short term goal is to lose 30 pounds before my daughter's wedding in July. My long term weight loss goal is to get to 130 by this time next year (or sooner!)

The Essence of a New Day
This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in it's place is something that you have left behind...let it be something good.
