Jennifer, Congratulations on searching for answers and support on Spark. Don't think that we have not also gone down some of these paths in the beginning. We can't do much more than give you general answers though. Afterall, you wouldn't expect medical advise just by saying,"I have a growth on ___" There are general applications and also adaptations according to life style, tastes, etc.
Keeping your food record is a good way to start. You asked about how to cut back on fats. If you looked at your record you can see that the nuts were VERY high. Although a lot of benefits are in them, the fats/calories are a good reason to cut back on them. And as Skinny said, add fruits and vegetables. To combat the sweet tooth, I know I could not handle jam in the morning, my sweet is usually a piece of dark chocolate in the EVENING. White bread is also like eating sugar as it is a simple carb , easily digested. Eggs in the morning, WHOLE GRAIN cereal or bread, fruit are my choices to start the day. Some do use peanut butter, not jam.
Make a few changes at a time (why not breakfast) and find out what works for you.
(Spark has lots of references which are good sources of information. We'll do this together!)
Hey Jennifer, welcome to Sparkpeople. SP definitely works, if YOU work it. Going over your calories is due to eating foods high in fat, sugar & salt. These concentrated foods fool our body into thinking that we need to eat more than we need. If you add more salads, steamed veggies, fruit, beans and whole grains, you will get more VOLUME for fewer calories. You will feel fuller and begin to trust your body to make healthy choices. Keep at it Honey, you can do it. This is your life we're talking about here.
