I'm Baaaack!

Now that the election is over, it's time to get serious about losing these last pounds.

My Goals:
My ideal weight is about 165 pounds, but I would be happy to reach 175. Actually, once I get down below 200 I'm hoping to get off the blood pressure medicine.

My Program:
My diet, based on what I've learned here on Spark People, has helped me to maintain much of my earlier weight loss. Finding the time to do my walks has been a problem. Recently, my son gave me his treadmill. I am playing with it to figure out MY program.

Personal Information:
Originally from Texas, I lived in Southern California from 1966 thru 1996, partly while I was in the US Navy. I got laid off from a job I Ioved and due to my age I was told I was 'over qualified' when I went looking for a new job. I had just earned my BSBA and was able to start a new career in Insurance administration, after moving to Illinois, my wife's home town. After only 10 years I was again laid off and decided it was time to retire and start a business. I currently sell on both eBay and Amazon.com with so-so results.

Other Information:
When I was at my highest weight, I felt like I was REALLY fat, even clasified as obese. (The dreaded O word.) But then I would look around and see a whole lot of people who were so much bigger than me, and think 'My God, if I feel fat, imagine how those poor souls must feel.' I would try to remember how and what I ate when I weighed only 155 pounds. Really, I don't eat that much differently now as then, but now I'm fat! I know, portion size, etc. But I have never ordered anything Supersized. Now, I watch those portions.

emoticon Freedom Is Not Free

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.
