I am a 60 year old mother and grandmother. In March of 2014 I lost the love of my life after almost 40 years together. Now I find myself adjusting to my new life as a widow. I love my family, my friends, and my job.

The first thing I have committed to doing as a new widow is to join a gym and hire a personal trainer. I want to remain healthy and strong so I can live long and enjoy my life. I've always tried to eat healthy and do moderate exercise, but as I age, I realize my body is not 25 any more. I'm learning to accept myself and do my best to age gracefully.

Most of my life I have been thin and fit. When I reached my 40s, I discovered I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and was heavier than I had ever been at 163 pounds. I blamed it on the aging process. My weight had always stayed in the 125-130 range. At 5'3", I can't carry around a lot of extra weight. I became disgusted at myself and decided to do something about it. I wanted to get healthy. I was determined to be in better shape at age 50 than I was at age 40. I joined WW and steadily dropped 33 pounds. I got down to 127.5 pounds at my lowest. I maintained my weight at 128-130 pounds for almost ten years.

Since 2007, I have had some very significant things occur in my life. I lost my dad to cancer. I lost my mom to cancer two years after my dad died. My husband was diagnosed with cancer within weeks of losing my mom. He has undergone two surgeries. I had back surgery. Then my husband's cancer returned, metastasizing in his brain. He lived less than 3 months after his diagnosis. My emotional and physical stresses have played a big part in me gaining about 15 pounds, as well as the menopausal stage of life.

So, here I am. I'm ready to take care of me now and I believe Spark People is a tool to get me to where I need to be. At 60, I am determined to love and be content with myself and get healthy so I can continue to keep up with my grandkids!

My Goals:
I want to live a long, healthy life, enjoy my family, and work as long as I can.

My Plan: Eat healthy. Stay active. Firm the flab.

My Program:
I work with a personal trainer at my local gym and am learning to build bone and muscle through weight lifting.

I do not deprive myself of specific foods, but I do work very hard at preplanning my meals and snacks so my choices are healthy and wise.

As an organized and determined person, I tap into my will power to stay on track each day.

My name is Patty. I am a twin. I am from Texas, living just outside the Dallas Metroplex. I just recently lost the love of my life. He was an amazing man I was blessed to share my life with for 40 years. I have a beautiful daughter, handsome son-in-law, and three perfect grandchildren. I am blessed.
