Sparked to be a new me!
I am a 69 year old great grandmother of 6 who is young at heart, but my weight keeps me from enjoying life to the fullest. My husband, Bill, has been in a nursing home for over five years. Until her recent passing, my mom was in the same home for nearly 15 years. For several years, I ate dinner with him each evening when I got off work. That's when I started putting on the extra weight. I work full time, love to read, cook, and spend time with my family and friends. ...
Between work and the nursing home, my days are full, so that is why SparkPeople is so special, it gives me a place to meet with special SP friends to, both, give and receive encouragement. Afterall, we all, pretty much, face the same challenges and, basically, have the same goals to achieve health. As I become more familiar with the SparkPeople website, I hope to make new friends with whom I can share encouragements along this journey to a "new me!".

My Goals:
1. Increase energy and stamina to meet daily challenges like putting on socks without pain. Hopefully, the knee and hip pain will decrease as I lose the weight. 2. To have "Just My Size" no longer be my size so I will look and feel better in my clothes, which will also be a boost to my self esteem. 3. To encourage and be encouraged by those SP whose paths I am blessed to cross as we make this journey together.
My Program:
Thanks to SparkPeople I am changing from a "dieter" mentality to that of a "healthy eater." I was especially encouraged by the tips I found on Beth Donovan's (Indygirl) blog. By taking a slower approach, I'm not feeling the pressure of past times. Plus, I'm learning not to beat myself up when I fail to make the right food choices. I just forgive myself and get right back on track.
Personal Information:
I was born and raised in Central Florida. I am married and have two daughters, six grand and six great grand kids. Throw a few step grands and step great grands into the mix and what you have is a typical American family. That's us!
Other Information:
I need to remember that "with God ALL things are possible" including this! "Many of life's failures are people who did not know how close they were to success when they gave up." - Thomas Edison
