Hello from Costa Rica! I'm a Costa Rican, living in Costa Rica.

I'm a proud member of the Awesome A Team - 5% Challenges.

My weight loss story:

For about 3 years, I was unable to get the motivation and determination (the big push) necessary to embrace and enjoy a complete change in my lifestyle seriously, until I got into the 5% challenges. I was always procrastinating the big start.

Thanks to the 2014 Summer 5% Challenge, I lost 5.4 pounds. And to the 2014 Fall 5% Challenge, I lost 4.6 pounds more and reached my goal weight (a total of 10 lbs lost).

I am extremely happy I've found invaluable friends along this lifelong journey here at SP.

My Goals:
To have fun, sharing and accomplishing goals together with my SP friends in this lifelong health journey.

I reached my goal weight on Nov 8, 2014. My center weight is 128 pounds. The lifelong, and so far very difficult, maintenance challenge continues.

My Program:
2017 Winter 5% Challenge
-Exercise Commitment
A minimum of 60 m of exercise, walking/hiking/other, 6 days a week. This may include 30 min of stretching and ST, 2 to 3 days a week.
-Nutrition Commitment
As for my diet, nothing specific but to eat as healthy as possible within my calorie range to maintain or lose weight.
I'm above my center weight. My main goal for this challenge is to go back to my center weight or below.

Personal Information:
I live in Grecia, Alajuela, Costa Rica, in the mountains (at an altitude of 4757 ft). I'm 58, married for 39 years. Three grown children already gone, and three grandkids. I'm currently working as a part time caregiver at home for my granddaughter almost 7, and her baby brother 19 months old.
My first SparkFriend in this page is my daughter and my granddaughter (pic taken about 5 years ago).

Other Information:
Besides my family, I enjoy my daily routine of walking for two hours, caring for my pets, 4 dogs - 4 cats, the Internet forums -SP, reading, watching movies or TV series. I also love to travel overseas, but can't afford to do so as often as I'd like to.
I'm an atheist with total respect for people's beliefs.

    Positive quote-Once in a while blow your own dam mind

    I saw this quote and thought yeah that's what I have to do so today. I had slept late and it was 11:00, so I got up off my but and did things I had been putting off. I took a long shower, blow dried my hair ate a good breakfast and got right on the phone calling VA. They had appointments set up for hubby on days I had appointments, can't do both things in one day. I told them what days I wanted and what times. Than I arranged the transportation. I then ordered supplies hubby needed. And I called the SS office and got things straighten out about when hubby came home. He was not still at the care home and SS did not need to cut off his checks. I told them he needed his check to pay rent. I straighten out my bedroom and made it a little more live able. I cleared out some dirty laundry that was piling up and got it ready to go to the Laundromat. I cleared out hubby's important papers drawer and through out things he no longer needed. All that before hubby even woke up.

    Busy afternoon with the nurse and PT gals coming by. Hubby stood up with a little aid 4 times. The last time he staid up until he got really dizzy. I really need to get him sitting up more on the side of the bed and in the wheel chair.

    Hubby is over his bout with C-Diff but is still taking antibiotics. I am feeling okay, got out yesterday to do my fasting blood work in the afternoon. Had some good me time. We have a caretaker coming tomorrow and I am having more me time. It was raining today but will be clear tomorrow. I think I will go up to the library and check out a new diet book or two LOL. Really am doing good with my Every Other Day Diet and don't need to change that, just need to do it.
